Default NC Rep filmed assaulting questioner
Rep. Etheridge assaults a person on the street
June 14, 2010, 10:08 am by Christina Wilkie

Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-N.C.) was videotaped aggressively grabbing a person's arm and twisting it on a Washington sidewalk, then pulling him by his collar.

In the video, first posted on Bretibart.TV, a young man in a blazer with a tape recorder asks Etheridge whether he "supports the Obama agenda." Etheridge demands to know who the man is, repeating "Who are you?" over and over.

The man, who looks young but whose face is deliberately obscured in the video, says "I'm a student," but refuses to say where, further angering the congressman.

He repeatedly asks the congressman to let go of his arm, which Etheridge finally does before walking away.

The identity of the student had not been revealed at press time, and a call to Etheridge's office was not returned.

This isn't the first time Breitbart.TV and its owner, conservative activist Andrew Breitbart, have been linked to politically damaging videotapes: In 2008, James O'Keefe, a blogger on Breitbart's biggovernment.com website, posed as a pimp in an now infamous sting video that helped bring about the demise of community group A.C.O.R.N.

I'm not a fan of Breitbart.TV, but this doesn't look good for the Congressman. At one point he says to the "reporter", "Who are you? I have a right to know," which is not true. He has no such right.

I'll be curious to see if there's anything behind this video (maybe prolonged harassment of the Congressman before Breitbart finally got the footage he wanted) like there was behind the "Pimp" video that eventually helped to take down ACORN.

Bob Etheridge apologizes for reaction to students with camera
By David Weigel | June 14, 2010; 1:18 PM ET

Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-N.C.) has issued an apology for his behavior on a much-circulated video in which two young people with a video camera who identify themselves as "students" elicited an angry reaction from him -- including grabbing the right arm and then the full body of one student. [Original Etheridge post below.]

"I have seen the video posted on several blogs," says Etheridge. "I deeply and profoundly regret my reaction, and I apologize to all involved. Throughout my many years of service to the people of North Carolina, I have always tried to treat people from all viewpoints with respect. No matter how intrusive and partisan our politics can become, this does not justify a poor response. I have and I will always work to promote a civil public discourse."

To paraphrase: "Because this assault was caught on video, I apologize."

I took it to mean "They're obviously assholes trying to get a rise out of me, but I suppose I shouldn't have flipped out."

You're right that camera footage increases remorse. I'm sure there's a graph of it somewhere.

LOL.

I love that. It's like a natural law.

Still I think if anyone of us were walking in the street minding our own business and some clown shoved a microphone in our face our first response would be to clock the person. That's what my reaction would be.

First I'd squeal, then pee myself, then run.

Interestingly enough, this is also Kirkus' response to first dates.

Actually, dry's first reaction would involve a hotel room and riding crop- but, to each his own.

For the record, Julie Krone is a PHENOMENAL lay.
