Default Anti-Gay State Sen. Arrested for DUI Leaving a Gay Club
Another member of the Hypocrites Hall of Fame, the Larry Craig Wing

Early Wednesday morning, State Sen. Roy Ashburn (R-Calif.) was pulled over and arrested for drunk driving. Sources report that Ashburn -- a fierce opponent of gay rights -- was driving drunk after leaving a gay nightclub; when the officer stopped the state-issued vehicle, there was an unidentified man in the passenger seat of the car.

Ashburn has issued an apology for the incident:

"I am deeply sorry for my actions and offer no excuse for my poor judgment. I accept complete responsibility for my conduct and am prepared to accept the consequences for what I did. I am also truly sorry for the impact this incident will have on those who support and trust me - my family, my constituents, my friends, and my colleagues in the Senate." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/0..._n_485419.html

Why are they so stupid? I mean... if you're a gay bashing public figure, why would you even go to a place where someone might recognize your face because they've paid attention when you were publically bashing them?

Because powerful people think they'll never get caught. And if they get caught, that they, either on their own, or through their "backers", will be able to get out of the jam before it goes public. And that goes whether straight or gay.

And probably if you ask this guy, or Craig, or Haggard, even when they are caught red-handed with another guy, they would swear they are not gay, but rather are "experimenting".

I never understood this either.......

This seems rather flimsy especially in light of all the nonsense that's been going around the republican party. If the past two years are any indication...you will get caught, it is only a matter of time. Gay or straight everyone should know by now ...if you are a public figure people are going to be LOOKING for sexual and other indiscretions so why put yourself out there?

I can't believe an ego would be so inflated that you think no one will ever know........

It's stupid. Just freaking stupid. This kind of thing causes so much hurt to other people

It's not just Republicans though, Missin'. It's the culture of the powerful.

Jim McGreevey never would have come out of the closet were it not for his paramour going public with details of their relationship. And what about Spitzer and his hookers, or Edwards and all his lies?

The Republicans who vilify the LGBT community and then get caught in flagrante delicto have their own special wing in the Hall of Shame, but the conduct that goes with the power does not discriminate based on political alligences.

This makes me want to watch FOX FauxNews for a few hours to see if they say anything about it. Though I think I already know the answer.

::

I had to drive down to the office today. I stopped at a gas station en route because I was really thirsty and wanted to buy a soda. I got my soda out of the fridge and went to pay, and then I heard Rush Limbaugh speaking in the background. They had a radio on in the store and were playing Rush's radio show.

I left my soda by the cash register and told the cashier that I'd take my patronage to a business that didn't advocate things that were "blatantly inhumane, uncaring, hypocritical, morally bankrupt, and socially irresponsible."

(I think that's a direct quote, but in all honestly, I may have changed the order. In any case, I'm sure about the descriptors.)

But karma's a bitch because as soon as I said it, I suddenly realized that I needed to pee and would have to drive a little further up to the Sheetz on the corner.

The answer lies mostly between his legs, you just can't trump biology.

I want to commend you on taking a stand, but all I can think is that gas station restrooms are "blatantly inhumane, uncaring, hypocritical, morally bankrupt, and socially irresponsible," or at least some of those epithets

I don't buy the whole "I'm just trying to represent my constituents" argument regarding the anti-gay voting record.

He probably hooked up with someone online, sent him Eric Cantor's pic claiming it was his, showed up 2 hours late after the poor soul had a serious case of the beer goggles, and the aforementioned poor soul simply didn't know any better...

Either that or he claimed to have one helluva Boehner.

Can you imagine being a teenager and having a last name like Boehner?

Consequences, consequences.

I imagine the GOP and his church will quickly be abandoning him. It's what they do.
