Me too, I tend to always get back to places like Costco, they seem to have quality and good prices.

My wife and I are garage sale/thrift store freaks.

I'm more of a 'buy American' guy and don't mind paying more for something I know will last a lot longer than some POS china product. You would be surprised at what all is still made in the US. Electronics of course are right out but I can find most everything else.

Yes stuff is more expensive but the quality is "usually" far superior and will last forever.

Sunlight Supply, one of our main distributors, manufactures some of their own products, and their add campaigns for these particular products have lately been;

"Imported From The USA"

Many of their other products are imported, not, from the US, unfortunately...

I am a penny pincher, I won't buy unless it is something I really want.

...the wife and I spend every Sunday morning clipping coupons. We are also members of a discount club (which can provide good savings on some things). She does most of the shopping and is a freak about buying stuff on sale.

Still, we are fortunate to have the wherewithal to buy things like more expensive cuts of meat.

Long story short, we save where we can, but aren't afraid to pay for higher quality items.

She's not in the category of an "extreme couponer," but she definitely saves at least a hundred bucks a month. Not bad for the cost of a few newspapers.

Yep, paying for quality is an investment-especially when it comes to food.... It would seem almost a no brianer, but sadly very few things are....

If you buy a cheap peach but it does not taste like a peach, a cheap tomato & it does not taste like a tomato-what is the point??? It would seem to make far more sense to pay a few cents more & get a peach or tomato that tastes good............

Costco is the way to go. 100% unionized and still somehow cheaper than all their competitors if you are willing to buy in bulk.

Labor relations

While some former Price Club locations in California and the northeastern United States are staffed by Teamsters,[52] the majority of Costco locations are not unionized although there seems to be a move in 2012 to unionize some locations in Canada.[53]

I'm in SoCal (Orange County) but was just in San Francisco yesterday and both the city Costco and the Walnut Creek Costco I was at were both union shops. I did not know most were not either cause literally every single one I've been to in CA has been union, even the brand new ones that I know were never Price Club. But that's prolly just a CA thing... you know land of fruits and nuts

We buy our meat at a meat market where we get better cuts of meat rather than purchasing it at some store like Walmarts.

Most of our items we get on sale except for other brands we may prefer over the cheaper ones.

I do a lot of yard saling and can most always find something that I can use around home for a pitance, as opposed to paying top dollar store prices for new. I am big on recyling the stuff and when I'm tired of it or think we have too much on hand I donate it St. Vincent dePauls, where they, in turn, clean, price and resell to the public much of which is very needy.

I check labels on products and if it says made in China or Mexico, I don't buy it.

Hey Binky.................

Yea, I only buy USDA Choice @ the store, where I shop that is all they have..... Safeway & the others is a bit cheaper, but then down cows should cost less..

I have not done many garage sales in a long time but I probably should now & then....... I have done craigslist a few times, bought a kayak about 6 months ago......... I will probably pick up another bike on there soon as well......

I try to avoid by [made in china] but it is almost impossible...

I have a lawn mower I bought (briggs/stratton) made in Mexico maybe 15+ years ago.......... Still starts w/ one or two pulls, never did anything to it but put gas in it........ Best one I ever owned......

Lots of produce is now from Mexico which I find on par w/ the local stuff, although some fruits are not quite as ripe, I guess to travel times........

Living in Calif central valley we can be picky, almost everything is grown around here..........

Yeah SF is great place to visit but I don't think I'd want to live there. They have just about the highest average cost of living in CA with close to the worst weather. I pay out the ass where I'm at down south, but at least its 70-80 degrees in the summer and 60-70 in the winter..... nice and reliable

Going back to SF in September. Interesting thing about the Costco in the city there, its in a ghetto part of town near this place called "Canned Food Outlet" where they literally sell old dented cans and shit other stores sold back to their suppliers. I went in there just to check it out and I gotta tell you it was an eye opener. I can only assume the majority of their shoppers were EFT/food stamps and they did not appear to be living high on the hog at all.

Amazing the type of difference having a few extra bucks can make when shopping even if you do look for the best deals around. For some people, being a good enough shopper to get adequate nutrition for their entire family means risking botulism

They don't have those down there?? They are all over here..... Perhaps for many that is the illusion of getting a deal, a no brainer, the dented can has to be cheaper than store X...............

SF has a pretty uniform temp, almost year round..... 55-65 is the norm. Not much higher, & not much cooler... The ocean & bay see to that....

Many pay a high premium to be in the foggy part of town/east bay.........

I am more of a warm weather person as well........ If it was my call we found't have a fall or winter........ Let those that wanna ski & all that move back to Colorado or SWISSconsin or whereever else they came from
