Got word this morning,my step uncle dies last night. He passed quickly, he was 94 served on an ammunition ship during Battle of Guadacanal.
He never liked to talk about it, from what I know he wasn't on any of the islands, when I asked him about his service, he always just said "too many of my fellow comrades died on those islands". 'Bout all he would ever say I haven't seen him in 10 years, he was built like an ox. He is survived my my aunt, and many cousins, etc. |

Extend my condolences as well CR. My dad was a WWII vet as well, and much like your uncle, he would not talk much about it. I suppose it was out of respect and deference to those who did not make it back. Your father and my uncle were the greatest generation, they had to be to save the world form fascism. There deeds spoke for them, HD. i'm glad i read this before sleep, it is comforting. may they never be forgotten. |
