Default What is it with GOLF....
It's a game that I just don't get

For me, I do buy golf balls, mostly the orange ones since they make great targets for 300 yard shots...but, to spend a day wacking a ball through grass is just a little strange...

For me, part of it is the challenge and the fact that you can never master it.

The perfect score is.......... unattainable.

The allure is also the constant quest of trying to get better, yet knowing that from day to day...you don't know which player is going to show up.

In the last few months, I have shot anywhere from 90.....to 78.

I usually walk or even if I'm riding with someone...I'll be the passenger so I can walk most of it. It's good exercise by the time you're done with 18 holes.

Walking down a manicured fairway, with nature all around....is also a great way to enjoy life.

Until I screw up the shot of course.

It's also one sport that you can actually get better at as you age.

Too others, it's simply getting out on the course on a nice day where you can spend hourse being extremely frustrated.

It's just a sport for some and not others...I think the people that enjoy it, just enjoy challenging themselves. (As AK said)

Golf, a beautiful walk in the park ruined by a game

My handicap is my beer curve ... I just call it "aiming oil".

birdie-one under par
eagle-two under par

"doggie" probably a reference to a dog-legged hole. (depending on the angle of the "dog-leg" some good players simply play over the angle.

"par" each hole will have a designated par, based on it's yardage. And then the over-all par count for the course. (In other words, your end score)

oh, I didn't cover "strokes" that's what you have after a triple bogey on a par 3.

I forgot the ever-loved "snowman"...that means you suck. I've been there.

There's also your "handicap"

have a headache yet? I'm starting to get one.

There is a Robin Williams comedy routine you'd appreciate.

Golf is like anything else. People just like to obsess on stuff. What that thing might happen to be is quite incidental.

I've got a nephew that lives and breathes golf...He works at a golf store, was on the golf team in HS and college and has placed in the money in local tournaments...He's hoping to turn pro at some point...

Even if he doesn't, it's an investment in his health as he exercises daily and stays on a rigid diet...More power to him... ...Ben

Robin Williams is also a golfer, so he knows of what he speaks.

I used to play because it was part of business but I never enjoyed it. Hit a ball and go look for it. If it hadn't been for beer I would have never survived 18 holes.

I know, is that not the best?

"you're lucky you found it"

disclaimer-golfers are not all elitist, but who cares...it's Carlin and it's hysterical.
