Default Yo Minty!
Are you going to make it to the Shrimp Festival in Fernandina?

We've gone a couple of times in the last few years, but the number of vendors and people there this year....was amazing!!

There are almost 500 vendors and the crowds were phenomenal.

This is looking toward the water.

It was jammed for all 8 blocks, as well as a block either direction on every single cross street.

No, the last time I went to that was several years ago and it was so HOT and miserable that day, I swore I'd never go back there again. Seriously!

That's the first place I ever tasted 'crawfish'. Yuk. They look good but taste nasty! Did you buy anything? That is one crowded affair down there. Is the Palace Saloon still open?

It wasn't too hot yesterday, but last year we about melted.

I was proud of my wife, the only thing she bought was a very nice wooden door stopper. Then again, I think she's starting to see my point that we don't have much room for more "stuff."

I don't recall the Palace Saloon, but there are still a number of bars/restaurants there.

A door-stopper is all you left with? Sweet. Did you eat anything or buy shrimp?

Yeah, yesterday wasn't too bad. When it's hot it's way too miserable and crowded for me. lol

The Palace Saloon is on the main strip and is a historic bar in Fernandina, been there for decades, really, really old. Try the Pirate's Punch if you ever stop there. It's their famous specialty drink.

Yeah, I was pretty happy.

I did have to drag her away from a couple of larger wall art type things though.

Yeah, we tried two vendors for shrimp.

It seemed like most of them were just serving fried shrimp though.

Big deal.

My wife makes a shrimp skewer with bacon, tomato's, bell peppers, onions and steak....that is out of this world.

She could have made a fortune if she had a booth doing the same thing.

I recognize the place now.

Yes, it was jamming.

I have a childhood friend who paints and does all the art shows here in and in FL. Not sure if she had a booth at the Shrimpfest this year. Seems like it'd be a perfect place to make some sales tho.

Yes, it was jamming. Yes, it's like a permanent fixture in Fernandina. Do you ever go to St. Augustine?

Fairly often.

I can almost recite by memory.........all of the stores on St. George St.

We also prefer going there to the beach.

You can drive right on the beach of course......and that really helps with the beach "stuff."

I'm not far from Fernandina. Why wasn't I told about this alleged shrimp festival?

Gee, it's only been going since 1965.

How far away are you?

It's about a 2 1/2 hour drive. I live in Georgia at the moment. I've been known to escape to Fernandina for a weekend every now & then.

Kewl.

Fernandina is certainly more fun than that dull, sleepy place where my wife used to live.............St. Simons Island.

Apparently, it's where high school kids around here go for Spring Break. So I gave it a shot once. I'm a fairly young man myself (31), & I always enjoyed the beach as a kid, mostly on the Jersey Shore & in San Diego when I lived there, but Jacksonville has some awesome beaches.

As I mentioned above, St. Augustine beaches are worth the extra 30 minute drive in my opinion.

If I really wanna make a drive, St. Pete Beach is just about the best beach in FL not named Daytona.

We agree!!!

Here's what it looked like out of our balcony (close to the bridge) the last time we were there.

Daytona being only an hour and fifteen minutes from our driveway, is the one we visit the most though.

Oh man oh man, I'm drooling over those beach pictures; bet the water is actually warm enough to swim in.

Yeah, I know. It's like another world down there.....and at Ponte Vedra. It would be so great to live right on the ocean, except during hurricane season, of course.
