Default Manchester United Season Tracking Version 2
Back for another season.

Just kicked off pre season.

Man United 3-1 Celtic.

Opened the scoring deservedly from Berbatov in the 35th minute, after a couple of other chances had gone astray. Celtic though came back into it in the second half and after Chris Smalling gave away a penalty Georgios Samaras smashed home the resultant spot kick. However one goal never became more for Celtic and after withstanding the pressure United retook the lead after Berbatov squared the ball to Danny Welbeck who tapped it home and when Tom Cleverley's effort was deflected in, the game was safe.

Pleasing win more than anything.

Man Of The Match : Dimitar Berbatov.

Manchester United 1-0 Philadelphia Union

Not a bad peformance tonight, just really ordinary and no real standouts. Goa came 15 minutes from time when Gabriel Obertan scored. Should have had a penalty shortly after when Giggs was impeded but nothing came of it.

Man Of The Match : Ryan Giggs.

Manchester United 1-2 Kansas City Wizards.

Not a very good performance tonight. They took a deserved lead before Berbatov equalised from the penalty spot after thye had a man sent off (by the letter of the law he had to go but it was only a friendly, but then they rules should always be enforced), before they scored again just before the break.

Man Of The Match : Dimitar Berbatov (although that's more to do with the fact that nobody really played well)

Manchester United 5-2 MLS All Stars

Goos performance from the sounds of it, went 2-0 up inside 12 minutes with a double from Macheda, then they got one back just past the hour from Brian Ching. Three more goals then followed from Darron Gibson, Tom Cleverley and new signing Javier Hernandez. Ther goal back in stoppage time from De Rosario rounded off a good game.

Man Of The Match : Javier Hernandez

highlights the gulf between premier and MLS, the best of the MLS were totally outclassed by a less than 100% Utd team

what do you make of the team this year springers?
They look strong in every department to me, bar perhaps central midfield.

Strong enough really. Goalkeeping wise could be a worry if VDS gets injured because while Kuszack is ok, I don't rate him as top class and Amos is a little inexperienced. Defensively we're ok barring a crisis like the one last year, midfield's fine with Fletcher really coming into his own, the only thing I would say is that Giggs and Scholes can't obviously play every week and that will mean the younger players will to step up (saying this Giggs and Scholes had fantastic seasons last season). Rooney will have to get the goals because Berbatov would only manage just into double figures (12 last season in the league but over a longer stretch of time)

So yeah it's fine at the moment, I suppose we could always use another striker perhaps but the younger players will get more game time this season.

Manchester United 2-3 Chivas

The good news is Javier Hernandez scored. The bad news is it was against us.

No no not an own goal, he played for both sides in either half and picked the first half to score against us. We then equalised from Chris Smalling before going 3--1 down with goals in either half from Bautista and Reynoso. Nani's goal late on made it 3-2 final score.

Man Of The Match : Honestly haven't got a clue, didn't see the game, but as the default setting is Giggs I'll pick him.

Manchester United 7-1 Airtricity League 11

Basically 11 handpicked players from the League Of Ireland, was a good game to watch more that anything, good training exercise (that's not me being disresectful, it was actually like that)

First goal came when the defender failed to deal with a ball, hit it against Ji Sung Park who made it 1-0, second goal from Owen, little flick over the goalkeeper. Early in the second half and the sub Hernandez made it 3-0 and rendered the game over. Valencia got a deserved goal on the hour before Park doubled his tally with a sweet curler into the top corner. Johnny Evans got his first United goal from a Valencia cross before Mulcahy scored a consolation for them. Nani's late penalty rounded off a good night's work.

Man Of The Match : Antonio Valencia

Manchester United 3-1 Chelsea

First competitive game of the season, winning the Community Shield. Opened the goal in the first half after a slick move ended with Rooney crossing for Valencia to finish smartly. New signing Javier Hernandez made it two with a shot which hit his head and went in, again good work from Valencia. Chelsea pulled one back from Kalou and piled on the pressure, but we withstood it and made it 3-1 in stoppage time thanks to a delightful chip from Dimitar Berbatov.

Man Of The Match : Paul Scholes.

I was quite surprised at how comfortably Man Utd won with a few injuries to first team players, wonder if it's setting the tone for how the season will go?

Too early to tell really. To be honest the injury situation isn't that bad, plus we have players to step in. It's a good marker to set down but a win in this fixture should never be something to get carried away with, West Brom will still fear going to Stamford Bridge next week. Although this said I felt we played very well in stages today and Chelsea looked dodgy at the back, especially Cole and Terry.

Manchester United 3-0 Newcastle United

Take the first half hour of this game and it's as good a performance as you are ever likely to see from us. The first half hour to address that was even, they went close twice while we had the good buildup without the end reward, but then it came off after Dimitar Berbatov finished off a flowing move. Darren Fletcher then doubled the lead before half time. The second half was pretty much the same story with plenty of chances being created and some really good passing, only one goal to show for it though, but Ryan Giggs's volley gave Paul Scholes's masterly pass the finish it deserved. On another night, and maybe later in the season it'll happen, it might have been double this scoreline, but the important thing was always to win and that mission was very successfully achieved.

Man Of The Match : Paul Scholes.

Fulham 2-2 Manchester United

Much better than the previous two visits to the Cottage and to be honest it was a fair result. Paul Scholes opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a super 25 yard strike which fizzed past Stockdale. Into the second half and Simon Davies levelled matters before they had a penalty shout turned down. After some pressure from them we got back on top and eventually retook the lead in the 83rd minute with a Brede Hangeland own goal before we were awarded a penalty after a Damien Duff handball, which Nani missed. In the 89th minute Brede Hangeland scored in the right end to level the score. Not the worse result in the world I suppose and we can't win every game. Third in the table isn't bad at this stage and we should win the next game against West Ham next week.

Man Of The Match : Paul Scholes.

Manchester United 3-0 West Ham

Convincing victory today. Got the lead just past the half hour when Ryan Giggs was tripped inside the area and Wayne Rooney dispatched the resulting penalty. The game was wrapped up when Nani's run and resulting smash into the corner made it 2-0 and when Dimitar Berbatov scissor kicked Nani's cross into the corner, the result became beyond any doubt.Dyer was unfortunate for them when his strike struck the post and to be honest he was the only West Ham bright spark.

Man Of The Match : Paul Scholes.

Everton 3-3 Manchester United

A game of ironies. Firstly with Rooney not traveling the point would have been taken. Then when Steven Pienaar put Everton in front after 38 minutes the point would still have been taken, Darren Fletcher's poke home from Nani's cross levelled matters before the break. Nemanja Vidic rose to head us in front early in the seond half and when Dimitar Berbatov made it 3-1 it seemed the points were safe. However a late rally from Everton gained them a point, firstly Tim Cahill headed the score to 3-2 and Mikael Arteta's deflected effort made it 3-3. Not a bad point in the end, just disappointed to give away a point when we had 3 going into stoppage time.

Man Of The Match : Nani

Everton nearly done an Istanbul! I was guttered when Everton went 3-1 down, but they got really lucky and could of got 4-3 if it wasn't for the ref. >.>

Could have done but they didn't score anyway, it's not like play stopped when the ref blew the whistle, in truth I don't think the players heard it.

But here is something for ya mate; the refs give plenty of time when United are losing as you've seen many times, but yet when they're on the brink on being beaten as we've seen today, the ref call the game as over. Call me crazy but I think it's a conspiracy!

Heh that's easy to say just because we were involved, I suppose you'd have to ask the ref.

That incident (playing on after time has elapsed) should always be treated as a judgment call by a referee. It's just another case of there you are. We could have scored in injury time (we had another corner). Saying this I thought the ref had a shocker yesterday, blowing for little niggly things, the game never flowed.
