$1m buyout from each school, both football teams stay through 2011, but all other sports move to the MWC next year. WAC meeting tentatively scheduled for tomorrow to vote on it.
I think it's a good deal for all parties involved, the WAC gets to save face a little bit by getting part of the buyouts and keeping the conference together for another season for football while they find replacements for 2012. Our other sports would move directly to the MWC for 2011-2012, which is a good thing for the MWC, as they need Fresno baseball to make up for Utah leaving, and Fresno Women's BB is the class of the WAC right now. Nevada has a good BB team that will make up for Utah leaving as well. This leaves Fresno with an additional OOC game to fill for 2011, which is reportedly going to be Oregon. Leaving us with the following schedule... OOC @Nebraska @Oregon* @Cal* Ole Miss North Dakota Conference @Hawaii @Nevada @Idaho @NMSU USU LaTech SJSU *not finalized Also, since we're playing on the islands, we could add another OOC game if we wanted to. That out of conference schedule already scares the crap out of me though if the Oregon game happens. Playing in Memorial Stadium and in Autzen in the same season? The WAC schedule should be a gimmie with Nevada losing Kaepernick, and not having anyone even close to proven behind him right now. Hawaii will probably pose the only challenge, but our offense and defense both to be even further improved next season than this, and we're already good on both sides of the ball, just not great yet. So maybe we'll finally win that elusive outright WAC title. ![]() I don't think anyone could argue with our BCS credentials if we were to somehow get through that OOC schedule undefeated... which I don't think is very possible. ![]() |
