ok so I just joined, and there are HUNDREDS around my town, and about a dozen out in Galveston.

I'm not sure exactly what each one is supposed to be though. And do you always get to claim them? Like say you found them?

One girl said I have to e-mail her answers to things and pictures to prove I was there - are they all like that?

or Are some of them where you just go and take things from the box?

I just found out my friend and her boyfriend do it all the time. She says not to go to the one behind the public library - apparently it was set up by a homeless man just so he could get visitors

I actually just use my TomTom and it works fine. Just remember if you're not using a handheld that it takes it a little while to "catch up" once you get out of the car.

Yeah, when you said there weren't many in LA I was thinking "I bet she hasn't checked in a while"...LOL You can always claim them...there should be a log inside the cache that you sign and date, then you go on the website Sammy listed and log it as found.

The one that you were talking about w/ the photos and questions is what's called a "virtual cache." Those are fairly common, but not the norm (although I find them to be a lot of fun). The "normal" or what is called a "traditional cache" is what you're talking about where you find the cache and remove an item while leaving something of equal value in it's place. There are many different kinds of caches (multiples, traditional, virtual, letterboxes) and I think there's a good explanation somewhere on the website for each type. It really IS a lot of fun, Janie...I think you'd like it. I would go in a group, though, unless it's a well lit area that you feel safe going to alone.

I am TOTALLY going to find some in galveston. I have a TomTom, but not sure if I can enter GPS coordinates in mine, but my roommate has a droid - the droid has to have an app for that right??/

if not, it looks like I will have to make an impulse purchase tomorrow before we leave...

I remember watching a whole TV segment on this. Looked real cool and I was going to get into it and then had kids

Now that my son is older and that GPS are cheaper and that they have it for phones, perhaps I can look into it again..

If you hit the "navigate to" button it should take you to the screen where you can choose from "address" and stuff like that...somewhere in there there's an option for coordinates. If it doesn't have that, you can click on the "help me" button in the main menu and it'll show your coordinates and change as you move. You can use it that way, too, and just watch to see when it matches up w/ the coordinates given for the cache.

Lol...kinda negelected this post a bit!
@Natasha...We are called Mona's Mob and we have (i think) 280 something finds.
We have an Oregon 300 gps which is pretty good. Ive found the same as you - its takes you to places that you never even knew existed which are normally just right outside ur door!!
@Janie All you need to do is register for free on the website. You then need to download them onto your gps and away you go! Once you have found it, you come back and log the cache on the caches page via the GC number....its pretty easy once you get into it! There are some that require you to send in answers or pictures in order to claim the cache..
@PinkPorridge...Its about damn time!!! Lol...yeh, let me know when ur free and we can go caching...
