I don't think America actually believes they'll get the next available world cup.

With these things, there's very much an element of having to have your name on the list for a prolonged period of time before you even consider forking out for a serious bid.

there's no need for everyone to slag off the US here, but I do think it's very unfair of the US to expect to host the tournament so soon after the last one. There are scores of countries waiting to host football, and the majority have it as their national sport.

The US will get it's turn again, but at least let some other countries that have the game as their national sport go first.

I liked the opening ceremony, typical American razz ma tazz, loved it when a certain D. Ross missed that "penalty even though it was an open goal

Personally don't think they will get it next time around because they've had in 1994, and it is too soon for them to put on another Finals

The World Cup being here in 1994 was actually a big part of what got soccer more on the map here in the states than it ever had been before. It's pretty much the reason why we have MLS to begin with. I also don't think that anyone would even want the World Cup to be in Mexico right now because of all of the drug cartel violence and kidnappings.

WHY US?

The Game Is In US
No nation embodies the values and spirit of the FIFA World Cup™ quite like the United States.

Whether you choose to call it soccer, football, or futbol, it is a game that, in so many ways, tells our nation's story.

It is a game where individuals shine through participation, talent and creativity—but team success results from hard work, sacrifice and dedication to a common cause.

It is a democratic game that requires nothing more than a ball, a patch of ground and the passion to play.

It is the world's game, and America, with its rich diversity, is a uniquely globalized nation. We are the world's melting pot, and we have brought the game with us from every corner of the earth.

This is why the game has captured the imaginations of so many Americans and continues to grow at an astonishing pace. It is in our schoolyards and stadiums, our church parking lots and cornfields, our back alleys and beachfronts, pulsing through our cities and suburbs and countryside alike.

The game has grown and never before has there been an opportunity to unify all the diverse passions that live within our borders.

The game is everywhere. The game is in US. We are Americans and we are ready to welcome a FIFA World Cup™ that makes the game part of the everyday social consciousness of our country. http://www.gousabid.com/pages/the-game-is-in-us/

Also, the 1994 World Cup set attendance records that had stood for over 40 years. The average attendance per game was 69,000, for a total of 3.6 million attendees. That was in 1994, I'd imagine it would be even bigger the next time around. Granted a lot of people travel to the World Cup, but we also have the biggest stadiums in the world... hell, we have a number of stadiums that will seat over 100,000 people, and even more with a 90,000+ capacity.

Bullshit!!!

Whether you choose to call it soccer, football, or futbol, it is a game that, in so many ways, tells our nation's story.

Is that why Americans try to take the piss out of it at every opportunity?

It is a game where individuals shine through participation, talent and creativity—but team success results from hard work, sacrifice and dedication to a common cause.

It is a democratic game that requires nothing more than a ball, a patch of ground and the passion to play.
The ability and hard work to play it well is far more important.

It is the world's game, and America, with its rich diversity, is a uniquely globalized nation. We are the world's melting pot, and we have brought the game with us from every corner of the earth.
Except you try to diss it at every opportunity

This is why the game has captured the imaginations of so many Americans and continues to grow at an astonishing pace. It is in our schoolyards and stadiums, our church parking lots and cornfields, our back alleys and beachfronts, pulsing through our cities and suburbs and countryside alike.
And this is why 4 out of 5 Americans had no idea they were hosting it during the tournament in 1994?

The game has grown and never before has there been an opportunity to unify all the diverse passions that live within our borders.
What the fuck does this even mean other than some bullshit spin which sounds good but makes no sense?

The game is everywhere. The game is in US. We are Americans and we are ready to welcome a FIFA World Cup™ that makes the game part of the everyday social consciousness of our country.

Erm, you had the World Cup and you did a shit job of welcoming it, what do you think has changed since then?

Basically, the above is a load of bullshit. Personally I'd rather see the world cup in a country where the people there will embrace it.

so if england, mexico or chile even had stadiums that big.......do you think they'd match that record?

This thread is an example of why most Americans cant embrace it, at least not when approached from people from the UK

you guys are so up your own asses with your opinions that you fail to see the numbers and the fact that the US had the highest number of fans to support their teams at this years World Cup.

Soccer is making a bigger impact in our country now, and instead of accepting that you guys state things that happened 16 years ago

so why should america host it again after 16 years?....its been 44 years since a proper football nation like england hosted it,its not in living memory since uruguay hosted it.....and as for emerging nations i think the aussies would get my vote

Eh? I saw lots of countries with more supporters at this world cup or maybe USA supporters were rather on the quiet side? Dont get me wrong, I like seeing USA people getting into football and there's no doubt it's grown yet the fact remains, in general the USA is still one of the most unenthusiastic football supporting nations in the World despite it being given the biggest push over there, the quality of USA footballers has grown far quicker than the football supporters.
