Unfortunately, Springers opinion of his country at football is very popular amongst supporters of the "big four" teams (Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal & Chelsea........though not so much in my experience with Chelsea fans) I can't wait for the World Cup this summer ![]() |

I'd agree to some extent. I sort of understand why, but not quite. There's nothing that comes close to international football. The world cup is 4 billion times bigger than the Champions league. ![]() |

The Club always get the say because they are Wayne Rooney's employers. So no, Manchester United have no obligation whatsoever to rest Wayne Rooney. |

Yes but.....England should have more to cope with that. I mean Rooney won't play on Sunday, but he will be back for the Man City game the following Saturday, and then he'll carry on playing because he's fit then. But as I keep saying, we are his employers, and he is contracted to play for us. He plays for England because he is called up to represent, as are the other players. I just think there's a massive overeliance on one player and the whole expectations are on him to deliver in the WC, but it doesn't have to be that way....I mean Steven Gerrard is a very good player, so why can't he be loaded with the nation's expectations? Or why can't Peter Crouch carry them?
I mean if Rooney got injured and didn't go to the WC, and England went out in the second round, people would be blaming Rooney for being injured, which would be totally unfair because A) He was injured, and B) That would be glossing ove the fact that England just weren't good enough. Like they weren't in....Oh I don't know, every other tournament since 1966. |
