Look, this could have happened at any time. I know it happened in a massive game and everything and it cost ireland but it could happen in the Premier league this weekend, it could happen in the Champions league next week. It's just a case of there you are.
I mean if we had every games replayed that had somethnig happen in it that cost a team then the backlog of games would be huge. I mean Bristol City vs Crystal palace earlier this season (I think) had that goal that never was, there was that phantom goal last season at watford, there was the famous Pedro mendes goal at Old Trafford, there was Stephane Henchoz in the cup final handling the ball on the line......I could go on. |

Of course video technology has to be brought it. That gets mentioned every time something controversial happens. But the argument which FIFA and UEFA have against is is that human error occurs.
What i will say, it showed the angle of both the Referee and the Linesman. Now, they could not, from the angle they had, see that Henry handled the ball. So they ouldn't make the call. Sure they have all the Irish players after them screaming handball, but you can't go off that. Anyway fuck them, they had no sympathy for us in 86, what goes around comes around. |

No, as it's nothing to do with me as I am neither from Germany or New Zealand.
What i will say is I think FIFA here have done the right thing, as if they had granted a replay to Ireland, then every team who felt they had been cheated out of a game would want one, and one would have to be granted because Ireland got a replay and you cant just not give a replay. It would set a dangerous precedent. |

Right let's just say FIFA had granted Irelands replay.
Now tomorrow in the Premier League Liverpool play Manchester City, lets say it's 1-1 in the 85th minute. Yossi Benayoun goes through, dives to win a penalty (everyone can see its a dive apart from the match officials) and Liverpool score the penalty and win 2-1. Now City can turn around if they so wished and say "We want a replay". And because FIFA have granted Ireland their rematch Manchester City would have to get a replay as it wouldn't be fair. See, it would have been a dangerous precedent to set. And it wouldn't have just been City, it would have been Man United, it would have been Chelsea, it would have been Stockport County. Basically every team that feel they have had a decision go against them would have had the right to a replay. |

Right let's just say FIFA had granted Irelands replay. Arsène Wenger offers FA Cup rematch | News Archive | News | Arsenal.com i suppose the difference being this was offered and accepted rather than demanded but here is evidence of justice being done |

That was in the FA Cup. There was time allowed for that replay, with this there is no real time with the other competitions.
That Kanu situation wouldn't happen these days as the rule states now that play may go on if a player is injured unless the referee sees that the injury is serious (i.e a head wound) so it's up to the team on the ball to kick it out of play. As I said, if this had been granted then the backlog of games would be huge. This season wouldn't end until 2012. |
