the thing though is that on any given day the top 4 teams likely could beat the other.
Wow--insightful observation you douchebag!!!

Here's an example of what I was talking about in terms of Vegas odds:

Florida the BCS Title Game Favorite, But USC Would Win College Football Playoff, According to BetOnline.com Odds Makers - MarketWatch

PANAMA CITY, Panama, Dec 08, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- According to BetOnline.com -- the No. 1 online Sportsbook in the world -- Florida is the favorite to win the 2008-09 BCS National Championship, while USC (Rose), Alabama (Sugar), Texas (Fiesta) and Virginia Tech (Orange) are the early picks to win each of the four BCS bowls.

But with the college football masses, and the President Elect, clamoring for a NCAA pigskin postseason, the odds makers at BetOnline.com took it a step further in 2008.

Handicappers from the site put odds to a potential eight-team bracket following Sunday's announcement of the final BCS rankings, pitting No. 1 Oklahoma against No. 8 Penn State, No. 2 Florida against No. 7 Texas Tech, No. 3 Texas against No. 6 Utah and No. 4 Alabama against No. 5 USC in a winner-take-all Elite Eight of college football's finest.
March Madness, meet December Derby.

Here's a look at the odds for each matchup in a bracket loaded with intrigue:
2008-09 BCS EIGHT-TEAM PLAYOFF (favorites advance)

Quarterfinals

No. 1 Oklahoma (-9.5 )
No. 8 Penn State

No. 4 Alabama
No. 5 USC (-7)

No. 3 Texas (-14)
No. 6 Utah

No. 2 Florida (-14.5)
No. 7 Texas Tech

Semifinals

No. 1 Oklahoma
No. 5 USC (-2.5)

No. 3 Texas
No. 2 Florida (-4)

Final
No. 5 USC (-2)
No. 2 Florida

Champion: USC

In the BetOnline.com bracket, USC -- despite finishing No. 5 in the final BCS standings -- would win the 2009 BCS National Championship as less than a field goal favorite against No. 2 Florida in the BCS National Championship.

"Flat out, college football needs a playoff," said BetOnline.com odds maker T.J. Kendrick. "The fact that USC is the favorite to win a BCS title they won't even have a shot at this season really sheds light on one of the many flaws the current BCS structure presents. The best team may not win the national title because of a computer."

About BetOnline.com

BetOnline.com is one of the fastest-growing and most reliable online wager portals, delivering the most exciting and dynamic wagering experience on the Web. In addition to a comprehensive sportsbook that covers all games in the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, NCAA and more, the site also offers complete racebook and casino action and a myriad of propositional bets. BetOnline.com offers same-day payouts and is one of the few revered wagering companies to have its sports odds listed on Yahoo.com. BetOnline.com is headquartered in Panama City, Panama. Now while we can all argue amongst ourselves and while you football moore-ons have the right to voice your uniformed opinions , the Vegas odds makers do this stuff for a living. They don't have the "SEC" bias like the Maulds and Uncle Bacon or the missing brain cells like you do. If you took a panel of experienced college football analysts without a bias (i.e., no West Coast people, no SEC people) they would overwhelmingly select SC as the best team in college football because its fucking obvious if you go up and down the rosters of the teams, you fucking Michigan cocksucker!!!

I am all for a playoff system. They say it will take away from the reg season, but that is not true, if you lose more then one game, you are out of the playoffs, so you got to win anyways!

But with the current situation, there is no chance ever for a underdog, like in the NCAA Basketball pools to come in and win a game.

A playoff is definitely needed. 8 teams, 10 at most with #1 and #2 getting a bye.

CBSSportsline put this together, going way overboard.
