I love the opening ceremony!

I don't see any coverage on NBC.
Tonight. Pre-stuff at 7:30 pm. Opening ceremony 9pm - midnight.

Of course they're tape delaying coverage for us on the West Coast. Even though the event IS TAKING PLACE ON THE WEST COAST!!!!

I think they're all insane.
Me too...last time I skiied I got so mad from falling down I smashed my (rental) pole and bent it. I was cross country skiing at the time! One time when I went to the top of the highest downhill mountain I decided I couldn't possibly make it down the hill alive...so I walked down.

Nice...so everyone gets messed up. I wonder if they're doing that with the Canadian stations...I would doubt it, but I didn't look yet.

Getting to the highest place is probably not particularly smart unless you are already a pretty good skiier.

Sure there is some risk, but the mountains (or even just a snowy forest) are so beautiful....

P.S. I go cross country skiing this Sunday. I'll try not to fall...

Some of them are also close to indestructible (example below)

The crash
Celebrate Stupidity is more like it.

I remember that fall. And remember thinking, "See, stupid?" LOL!

At least skiing I can understand as a sport. The one I don't get are those snowboarders or whatever they're called that have to do those dingbattish spins and flips and stuff in the air... You'd have to have a deathwish to ever think about giving that sport a try.

But nothing is worse than the balance beam in gymnastics. The person who invented that contraption should get his own ring in The Inferno.

I'm really the last person who should be talking about such things. I still can't watch the original 101 Dalmations because it scares me so badly.

I can't believe we're starting the games with a death.

Georgia's Olympic team is very small, maybe 10 people total (including my personal favorite - figure skater Gedevanishvili). This is so sad, so heart breaking. My heart goes out to his family, friends, and all of Georgia and Olympians. I hope during the Opening Ceremony there's a tribute of sorts.
