Erm, does Tennis Elbow count? I just won the French Open. Athletically I'm horrible, but I have fun.
Oh good call there. Being top ten in the world in Tennis Elbow was pretty awesome.

2 years ago, when i was coaching gymnastics, We had an olympic judge come in and help evaluate our team, so my boys asked me to do a routine for the judge to see how "coach" would do. I beat all my boys on floor and the judge told me that he was shocked someone 40 years old could still tumble like I could. He gave me a 9.65 which was .20 better than any of the teenagers. # months later I tore my rotator cuff and haven't really tumbled since, but I'm almost ready to start up again!!

In my high school state tennis tournament, I was down 2-4, 0-40 in the third. I rattled off 16 straight points to get to 5-4, 40-0. I then proceeded to lose my three match points in a row. And I threw up.

At this point in the story, I usually like to say that I threw up in disgust for losing my match points. In reality, it probably had more to do with it being outside in Phoenix, AZ, in May (temps in the 110's F).

The officials poured some Gatorade down my throat, moved us to the next court over (while some poor kid brought out the hose on the other court), and told us to resume play. My poor opponent (obviously rattled) made two quick errors, and I won the match.

Sad ending to the story? That was the quarterfinals, and I had to start my semi twenty minutes later, where the #1 seed was waiting for me. 6-0, 6-0. Ha!
OMG. Best. Story. Ever.

Doubles will most definitely strain the best of relationships!
I was doubles partners with one of my really good friends in a tournament at the beginning of this school year. Now we don't speak.

The two things aren't exactly cause and effect, but they're related.

Wow! Playing again 20 minutes later = no chance!
I had to play 20 minutes after my biggest win too! I won 3-6 7-6 1-0(...4? maybe?) and then the tournament director said my next match (the consolation final) was the last of the day and he wanted to leave. I took maybe fifteen or twenty minutes (he had asked that I only take ten) and was then destroyed in the final. I think I won a game. After that I found out there's a USTA rule that allows you to take at least half an hour rest after matches. I wish I had known that!

I started my freshman year at Villanova University in September of 1987. My mother coaxed me to try and walk on to the tennis team. I did and I made the 6th and final singles spot on the team. And the Big East Tournament was the following week. I won my flight at the tournament and we finished second overall, the school's highest finish. I beat the # 6 from BC in the finals to clinch second for us. My coach was absolutely ecstatic. And even more unbelievably, I was named athlete of the week in the school newspaper. Here I am, three weeks into my college life, not knowing anyone or knowing if i was going to try out for the team, and all of a sudden I'm a mini celeb. My dormmates took 50 newspapers and cut out my picture in each one and pasted them all over my door. It was outstanding.
That is outstanding.

This is a cool thread, morancito. I had no idea so many TATers had such awesome sports stories. I feel guilty a little bit, but mwoods' story made me laugh. "And I threw up" is not where I thought that story was going.

Don't feel guilty. All my favorite stories involve me being embarrassed in some way.
