Default Parcells Retires as Coach of Cowboys
IRVING, Texas (AP) -- Bill Parcells retired from coaching Monday, leaving the Dallas Cowboys after four seasons and ending a stellar career that featured three Super Bowl appearances and two championships.

The announcement came 15 days after the Cowboys' season ended with a heartbreaking playoff loss in Seattle. He'd been at his office nearly every day since, and there were other indications that the 65-year-old coach was returning for a fifth year in Dallas and 20th as an NFL head coach.

"I am retiring from coaching football," Parcells said in a statement. "I want to thank Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones for their tremendous support over the last four years. Also, the players, my coaching staff and others in the support group who have done so much to help. Dallas is a great city and the Cowboys are an integral part of it. I am hopeful that they are able to go forward from here."

Don't worry. I was busy listening. They immediately moved to who is going to take his place.

Yeah. Let's see what Junior High School coach Jones pulls out of his hat now.

*holds breath*

I'm mad that several assistants left while Parcells was making up his mind (other than Zimmer, who was gonna be fired anyway). I'm mad that coaches like Mora signed elsewhere while Parcells made up his mind. What are we going to end up with? Norv Turner? [smiley=vomit.gif]

Remind Barry not to pack his gun if he is flying in to meet with Jerry.

I am a Parcells guy...But i think its a disgrace he took all this time to quit...Its my understanding that he wanted to stay on with 2 more years on his deal...Jerry Jones wanted him to return with only 1 year on his deal...But its almost impossible for Coaches to deal with knuckleheads on a lame duck contract...Maybe Jones didn't want it to work...If thats the case, he better have a great candidate lined up...The pool for quality assistants is dwindling...This definitely could have happened on a better timeline

Something happened over the weekend. He had booked his hotel for the Senior Bowl before the weekend. Amon might be right. Contract problems.
