Take a look at the title of the thread. So you're blaming Vancouver/Canada for the weather?
What hof mentioned was mostly all controllable elements to the whole event but anybody who knows skiing knew it would be tough to have good conditions for any type of event that requires snow this time of year in Vancouver.

I guess if we're going to complain about controllable things, I switch my complaint to KD Lang. She's more manly then Robert Lang.

Whistler is one of the best ski areas in the world...no way you would've thought that would be a problem.

The other problems....I guess that is debateable.

The weather has been warmer than usual and no one can help it if there is rain.

Whistler is where the alpine events are being held. Racing surfaces are way different then what the regular public skis on. Racing surfaces need a mix of ice with snow to properly groom the surface to make it fast. With the current rain, its causing a slush like surface and freezing lumpy. It also snowed a lot at the top of the mountain which is great for recreational skiing but can slow things down race wise.

Also all the free style events are being held at a completely different site, Cypress mountain, which is suffering from a lack of snow where the slalom world cup championships had to be cancelled last year for the same problem.

I haven't watched any of the olympics, but from the problems described it sounds similar to the 1976 summer games in Montreal. A lot of people didn't think Canada would get another shot after their problems at that time. There was a crane holding up the grandstand and a lot of worry that it wouldn't hold.

The US should never host the Olympics again because of the Centennial Olympic park bombing at the Atlanta games.

All of those are weather-related problems which don't exist every year. Any site can suffer from those problems.

Saying Canada shouldn't host because it is too warm this year or there is rain this year is ridiculous.

It rained in Miami much of the week before the Super Bowl...should the Super Bowl never be in Miami again because it almost rained this year?

Zamboni's break down and shit happens. look at Daytona 500 where the track started breaking down.
Few things here:

1) Weather issues dont count.

2) Vancouver has had how many years to prepare for these games? Shit does happen, no doubt. But there was NO contingency plan for a hydraulic failure in getting the arms out of the floor? Its the focal point of the Opening Ceremonies & whomever was in charge of THAT part of the show 'crapped the bed'. Does it have to do with the competition? No, but that and a death the day before dont make for GOOD first impressions.

3) Speaking of the luge track, there were concerns from a few countries prior to the Olympics even starting about the speeds being attained and Canada's lack of cooperation of letting other countries practice on it. To say the track wasnt at fault, and to blame the athlete, and then shorten the track and adding some MUCH higher walls, smacks of an attempted IOC whitewash to me.

4) As for Daytona, that track's up for a $20 million resurfacing in the next couple of years. That said, Im surprised it hasnt happened sooner. The salt air, heating and cooling, cars running over it at insane speeds. At least track officials recognized the potential danger and addressed the problem. The same cant be said by Olympic Organizers in regards to the luge track. And, yes, I know that drivers have died and THEN more 'soft walls' were put in place, the device to keep the drivers' head still, etc. were implemented but those drivers ARE still infinitely more protected than a virtually unprotected athlete lying on his back doing 90mph.

Should have moved them to Eastern PA, we have enough snow for 3 Olympics, and more coming down now.

As far ahead as the towns are willing to part with the deposit money.

Just have the next Olympics that Canada hosts up in Yellowknife. I'm sure rain won't be a problem there in February.
