Few things here:

2) Vancouver has had how many years to prepare for these games? Shit does happen, no doubt. But there was NO contingency plan for a hydraulic failure in getting the arms out of the floor? Its the focal point of the Opening Ceremonies & whomever was in charge of THAT part of the show 'crapped the bed'.
I was hoping for a flaming puck, and Gretzky lighting up a cauldron behind a huge net.

I've been skiing at whistler twice in march and never seen rain. They just got unlucky this year. Besides, everyone is on the same course so no advantage for anyone.

The luge accident is unfortunate, but blame has to go on the course designers and the IOC for not full proofing it.

The luge course was designed by a German guy (not to place blame), but don't tell Hof that.

Smug, you've been to Banff and Lake Louise too, right? I've been there, but not Whistler. Just wondering how your experiences compared with the two areas.

Both places are great. Banff is a bit more isolated, Whistler has more of a downtown area for when you arent on the slopes. The snow and terrain at both are off the charts. In my opinion Whistler is probably a tad more commercial/crowded.

I think I said it in my thread way back about Banff, the rockies there seem bigger and more majestic than Colorado/Utah/Wyoming

Yeah, I never had the chance to ski at Banff or Lake Louise. We were in Calgary for a few days for a course and had one off day so we zipped out there. I wished I had more time there, got some cool pics though.

Not that this has anything to do with Canada, but you gotta love NBC's gaffe where they showed Michael J. Fox's pic instead of Terry Fox's.
