Having been involved in swimming for about 25 years now from age group to HS, college, national events and now master's swimming, I've never seen a relay like that. I've never seen someone at this level get run down like that. It just doesn't happen. If you have at least 1/2 a body length with 50m to go in that short of a race, you don't lose. |

Ummm...It happened in the women's race just before that...Hoff blew an entire body length lead in the last 50...That's twice in like 20 minutes... you are comparing a 100m race to a 400m race? It happens in the 400m, 800m and 1500m all the time. But this was a sprint. Nobody should get run down in a 100m race, with a .8 second lead, nobody. Katie Hoff blew a body length lead because she ran out of gas, in a 400m race that is not expected, but understandable. Much like the french woman out in lane 8, she had the lead half way through only to finish last...6 seconds behind the 7th place finisher. You are comparing apples and oranges. |

well if ya did you would know what was going on on the Eastern Front..... The Russians were getting annihilated until the Germans got greedy and spread too far too fast to try to hit the oil fields in SW Russia. EDIT: The Caucasus oil fields, to be exact. Because of the manpower foolishly assigned there and the necessary expansion of their lines the Germans left themselves badly over-extended and ripe to be pushed back by the vast numerical superiority of the Red Army... which was numerically superior in large part because the Japanese were dealing more with Pacific Islands and the US than Eastern Russia. |

Does anyone else have a link to this race? The link above requires some sort of plug-in and I can't download/install things at work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPb8Osw6vQY I have the same problem with the plug-in at work. EDIT: I think this is the whole thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYnlW-CzIx4 |

Yeah, and for about 100 years any Russian who thought they were hot shit learned French. Germans got greedy and also the Russian winter (big time winter) sure as hell helped them. Make no mistake they paid a massive price in terms of the dead. |
