Default Womens Gymnastics Olympic Team
what an emotional night! my heart aches for nastia and rebecca bross, goodness...nastia had an outstanding career and she will ALWAYS be an olympic champion. when she was done for the night and waved to the crowd with tears in her eyes i felt for her. I feel so bad for rebecca that she couldn't even get a spot. i don't think she ever really came back 100% since her injury and has just been struggling. i have a lot of respect for her to keep pushing on no matter what. I was so surpised that alicia didn't get on the team over kyla ross. she isn't even an alternate! pretty big slap in the face if you ask me, being that she has a lot of experience over the new girls. but i'm so happy for gabby, jordyn, kyla, mckayla, and aly; they all deserved it so much. when i watched them all walk up to the floor as their names were called and they were all crying with happiness i couldn't help but tear up and just imagine what that would feel like to be an olympian. wow, what respect i have for them. all of their hard work has finally paid off and i am so proud of them! i can't wait to see them compete in london, i know they'll do phenomenal. definitely rooting for jordyn since she's from where i live! i would have picked the same gymnasts but the 5th spot would have been a toss up. what does everyone think?

So the team is exactly what people were predicting before trials even began. I hate that they can only take five this year.

My heart aches for Alicia Sacramone and Nasti.
I would have liked to see a veteran on the team, yeah. If only Alicia hadn't had that injury and missed training time. I'm not too sorry for Nastia, even though I like her, since she got her gold medal and she could have began training earlier if she wanted to come back as a specialist.

I'm really liking Gabby Douglas, and I hope she has a great Olympics. I'm pretty 'meh' about the others, I admit. There just aren't too many gymnasts this quad that I like enough to root for.

why only 5 this year? Is Jordan Weiber expected to be the next Nastia?

Why not 7 like in Atlanta? BTW, was anyone else creeped out by closeup shots of Rebecca Bross's eyes?

The rules have changed to 5 member team, 3 up 3 count. Which means there's less room for specialists....you really needed to either be good at least 2 events (douglas, wieber, raisman, ross) or be the best specialist in the world (Maroney).

Maroney's vault is SO amazing. i will be very surprised if she doesn't win gold on that event. no one has as good a vault as she does.

Yipes, as if gymnastics wasn't hard enough the old way. I expect I'll have to watch it through my fingers our of nerves during the Games.

Nastia didn't look as fit as she did 4 years ago as related to gymnastics. I did tear up a bit when she was taking her final bow.

I didn't pay a lot of attention to the gymnastics in China 4 years ago. So, this is the 1st time I've watched the men's and women's gymnastics trials in years. All I could think was 'wow' Definitely some high flying moves and lots of risks.

Looking forward to watching the London Olympics.

i agree about nastia, i looked back at her performances from 2008 olys and she was definitely stronger back then. it didn't take as much strength to hold her own weight. but, at least she can say she came back and gave it a shot.

USA needed a good bars worker, which is why Kyla Ross was put on the team. I don't disagree with this. I would have however, put Alicia on over McKayla. Yes, McKayla is the world champion on vault but I think Alicia is still quite good - she's had many world championship medals on vault. Combine Alicia's vault, her beam (although she may not have been chosen for beam in the 3-up-3-count), her leadership puts her over the top. I too felt bad for Rebecca Bross...she never did recover from her injury. As far as Nastia is concerned, she waited to long to make her comeback and what we saw was an unfit gymnast (by Olympic level). I feel she kinda of tarnished her record.

I would really like to see Gabby make the all around and medal - even win. She's really come on strong the last 6 months...peeking at the right time. I'm also proud to see that an African-American is a contender for the title. I think she may be able to encourage other young African-American girls, whatever the sport or activity. Elizabeth Price, the other African-American alternate as well. Both gymnastics and skating are time-consuming sports, very expensive and require a lot of sacrifice by young girls/boys....I wonder why we have seen more African-American/Hispanic gymnasts (men/women) but not in skating...
