I didn't read all 300, but of the ones I did read they all sound like the logic of a 3 year old. How could anyone take seriously a person who makes statements such as -
COSMOLOGICAL ARGUMENT
I, I, I, I... sounds VERY arrogant to me. How can one sit and say that there is absolute proof one way, or the other of the existence of a god, or gods? To believe that there is no god(s) takes just as much faith as to believe in the existence of god(s). There is absolutely no actual proof one way, or the other. I'm not going to argue the existence of a higher being with a person who doesn't believe that there is one (Atheism - A person who has a positive belief that no god, or gods exist). Any discussion with a person committed to that position would be futile. How can you argue the existence of a higher being with a person who believes there are none? I'm talking true, hardcore atheists here, not boarder line, or agnostics. People who are agnostic are sitting on the fence waiting for the jury to come in. People like that have an open mind to the possibility that there might be a god, or gods in existence. You can at least have a discussion of differences in opinion/belief with a person that is open minded. Someone who has a 'positive belief' is completely closed off to any other possibility - and, just as faithful in their belief as a religious fundamentalist. Atheists are fundamentalist in the belief that no god(s) exist. Kind of has some religious overtones, wouldn't you say? However, I could be wrong. Father Michael |

~ Very cute.
So... 'Life Sans Deity Many either don't believe in God, Goddess or a higher power, others question the likelihood of their existence or doubt the need for any religion.' Is a fake topic? You're simply going to make fun of those that don't believe in God? Or question such? ... God is a representation of a belief system based upon faith. I have faith in unicorns, so strong it's still not shaken! {My soul is virginal, so a unicorn will come to me.} Sorry, don't find this topic funny. I apologise if I'm offensive. If I'm completely off, grant me patience, please? |

Technically, I am an atheist. I don't feel a guiding force of any kind exists. That's all that atheist means.
However, I do feel that everything/ being is interconnected and mysterious/ mystical. Also that every being and thing in the cosmos is on an equal level, that everything guides/ helps everything. I suppose there is no way to prove this either I found this list quite funny. I've heard (and at times participated in, with my atheist perspective) this kind of debating before. It always seems to go round and round in circles. Ah, the memories Reminds me of thoughts that I've had about afterlife. Always wondered about whether or not what happens after we die is whatever we feel happens after we die while we are still alive. These kinds of debates aren't important to me anymore. What is important to me is that people treat each other, themselves and what surrounds them with love, respect, kindness and tolerance. Experience and spread as little suffering as possible. The way to get there is different for everyone. Fine by me. Sushi Crow |

I believe that the author who assembled the list found both comedy and seriuousness in it. It was an attempt to collect all of the reasons that they had seen people use. I would not ever have thought that there could be so many. (although I think they were really stretching when some of the items were included as "reasons" though.)
It is, and has always been, acceptable here for Atheists and Agnostics to speak their mind about their beliefs. (within Board rules of course! LOL) ULC ordains both, but that's not necessarily the reason. Nonbelief and disbelief are all a part of religion and spirituality too, sort of the flipside to the coin. As was mentioned in the opening topic here, we'd had an Atheist/Agnostic forum before (I was the Mod.) but it was seldom used. We thought we'd give it a try again. |

Very true. And, as was stated on the list, it could have to do with one's financial state and age at the time at least as far as what appears on the surface:

They are partly done in mockery. The author claims that they are reasons used at the forum at Internet Infidels. I think the reasons were close to what different people used at different times and the mockery, or tongue in cheek, comes when he adds his interpretation of them. (I'm guessing the author is either an agnostic or an atheist.) The same person assembled the reasons why God does exist too.
