There's a lot of discussion about what yoga is. If you're interested in learning about the philosophy behind yoga, without getting into your workout clothes, check out the once-a-month Sādhaka Sundays: Everything But Asana Series at Wake Up Yoga Fairmount. The next one is happening this Sunday, October 24th, 7:15-8:30pm.
Everything But Asana is a once-a-month series of classes designed to explore the numerous other principles and practices of yoga that can only be briefly introduced or touched on in yoga asana classes. These classes will allow you to peak behind all the other doors into the world of yoga, in the approachable and digestible format of a regular class. We will take a peek at a variety of practices, including Ayurveda, chanting and Sanskrit, meditation, and philosophy. There’s time to ask questions, take notes, and most importantly, have an experience! The link is here--http://wakeupyoga.com/content/sadhaka-sundays-everything-asana-wtina-0 |

People have really liked them! We offered these classes once-a-month in the summer, and they are back this Fall by popular demand.
Tina, the teacher, is great--warm and knowledgeable. She has a planned topic of discussion, but the format is free-flowing, allowing participants time to ask questions and bring up related topics of personal interest. Plus, it's a nice community thing: people enjoy coming together and meeting with folks of similar interests. If you're curious, definitely come! |

Sorry for the much-delayed response. No, this series is not exclusively on the Bhagavad-Gita, though Tina may touch on this work. As an aside, if you're interested in a workshop focused on the Gita, check out http://www.practiceyogastudio.com/Ed...tml--happening December at Practice Yoga in Philly.
The Sadhaka Sundays series is to introduce students to the practices that underlay and inform the physical practice, which is what most people in the West think of when they think "yoga." Asana offers an entryway into these other practices, and this series is to offer a further entryway. The next session, happening November 21st, 7-8pm, deals with whether or not one must be a vegetarian to be a yoga practitioner. S |
