This is an example of one of the differences between Judaism & Christianity that makes me very happy with my own religion's views (Judaism).
In Christianity people are taught to sacrifice now and be good now in exchange for rewards in the "next life". A lot of focus is put on how wonderful heaven is and how bad hell is as a way to mold a person's behavior now with reward and fear. In Judaism we are taught we should be good now because it is the right thing. Giving of yourself is the reward itself. Helping those less fortunate than yourself is just expected, its called tzedakah, it means justice. It is only justice to give to those who need when you have excess. The highest justice is giving without being asked and doing it anonymously. Very little is discussed about the "after life". We are in control to do right here and to make this world better. |

The little know secret is that this IS the afterlife. |

Reincarnation's most likely, I think.
Actually, there's a pretty funny Pratchett blurb about a tribe that believes this is the afterlife, like they got here by being belligerent little arses in their lived life and so are still belligerent little arses. The Nac Mac Feegle IIRC. Those little pixies are hil-freaking-larious! |
