Default Mantras
Post your mantra here. (Bible verses, too.) If it's in another language, offer a translation, it's useless trying to chant it without knowing what it means.

Example: Gate gate paragate parasamgate bodhi svaha! ('Gone, gone, gone over to the other side, everyone gone over to the other side, understanding, hallelujah!) --Prajnaparamita Heart Sutra

hammer, if you like buddhist/hindu chants, you will love Ravi Shankar's album from a few years ago titled "Chants of India." Listen to it online or in a bookstore and see if you like it. Several of the mantras from that CD are commonly/daily recited by Hindus. The CD was produced by George Harrison (of the Beatles fame of course) and the booklet that comes with it (liner notes?) has the chants in original Sanskrit as well as their English translations.

My parents, for example, recite this one:

Sahanaa Vavatu

oṃ saha nāvavatu

saha nau bhunaktu

saha vīryaṃ karavāvahai

tejasvināvadhītamastu mā vidviṣāvahai

oṃ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ

OM Let both of us protect each other together

May both of us enjoy together

May both of us work together

Let our study become radiant, let there be no hatred between us

OM Peace, Peace, Peace.

This one is above the nature of divinity:

ॐ पूर्णमदः पूर्णमिदम् पूर्णात् पूर्णमुदच्यते |

पूर्णस्य पूर्णमादाय पूर्णमेवावशिष्यते ||

ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ||

oṃ pūrṇamadaḥ pūrṇamidam pūrṇāt pūrṇamudacyate

pūrṇasya pūrṇamādāya pūrṇamevāvaśiṣyate

oṃ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ

That is Absolute, This is Absolute, Absolute arises out of Absolute

If Absolute is taken away from Absolute, Absolute remains

OM Peace, Peace, Peace.

This one is taught to be chanted by students each morning, but good for all since we're all students:

RG VEDA INVOCATION

Asato Maa Sad Gamaya
Tamaso Maa Jyotir Gamaya
Mrityor Maa Amritam Gamaya
Ohm Shanti Shanti Shanti

God, please lead me (by giving me knowledge)
from the unreal to the real;
from darkness (of ignorance) to the light (of knowledge);
from death (limitation) to immortality (liberation).

Saraswati Mantra, the one to invoke the Godess of Learning. This is also a well-known mantra.

Yaa Kundendu tushaara haaradhavalaa, Yaa shubhravastraavritha|
Yaa veenavara dandamanditakara, Yaa shwetha padmaasana||
Yaa brahmaachyutha shankara prabhritibhir Devaisadaa Vanditha|
Saa Maam Paatu Saraswatee Bhagavatee Nihshesha jaadyaapahaa||

English Translation:
"May Goddess Saraswati,
who is fair like the jasmine-colored moon,
and whose pure white garland is like frosty dew drops;
who is adorned in radiant white attire,
on whose beautiful arm rests the veena,
and whose throne is a white lotus;
who is surrounded and respected by the Gods, protect me.
May you fully remove my lethargy, sluggishness, and ignorance."

For the beauty of the earth,
for the glory of the skies,
for the love which from our birth
over and around us lies;
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

on youtube, a lovely and short rendition:

Train a child up in the way he should go and when he is old he shall not part from it.

Omnes nihil est nihil omnem. Lat. 'Everything is nothing [and] nothing is everything.' I wrote it myself.

Lord Of The Dance. Not a mantra but a hymn. I love it! I just might put it in my signature.

YouTube - Barley Bree - The Lord of the Dance Hymn

Lyrics:
I danced in the morning when the world was begun,
And I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun,
And I came down from heaven and I danced on the earth,
At Bethlehem I had my birth.

Refrain

Dance, then, wherever you may be;
I am the Lord of the Dance, said he.
And I'll lead you all wherever you may be,
And I'll lead you all in the dance, said he.

I danced for the scribe and the Pharisee,
But they would not dance and they would not follow me;
I danced for the fishermen, for James and John;
They came to me and the dance went on.

Refrain

I danced on the sabbath when I cured the lame,
The holy people said it was a shame;
They whipped and they stripped and they hung me high;
And they left me there on a cross to die.

Refrain

I danced on a Friday and the sky turned black;
It's hard to dance with the devil on your back;
They buried my body and they thought I'd gone,
But I am the dance and I still go on.

Refrain

They cut me down and I leapt up high,
I am the life that'll never, never die;
I'll live in you if you'll live in me;
I am the Lord of the Dance, said he.

Refrain
