The 2009 season of outdoor community worship services known as “Sunset with the Son” will conclude with a “Super Sunday” picnic, family day and ministry fair at Gorgas Park on Sunday, August 30, from 4-7pm (weather permitting). The full plate of food, fun and information is sponsored by the Northwest Christian Alliance (NCA), a trans-denominational network of churches and ministries devoted to fostering unity through mutual cooperation in fellowship and innovative community service.

The varied activities menu will feature traditional summer barbecue fare served amidst a wide range of fun activities including a moon bounce and family-oriented games with a “World Serious” theme. Picnickers will also be able to take a stroll down the “love walk” located near the field house where they can learn about Christian ministries that are either based in the 21st Ward or are actively supported by area congregations.

New York Life Insurance Company will conduct a Child Safety Event at the picnic as a courtesy to the 21st Ward community. Parents or legal guardians can have an Amber Alert-ready CD produced for each of their children at no cost. This CD includes the child’s name, address, photograph, fingerprints, voiceprints, height, weight, hair and eye color, distinguishing marks, medical alerts, and emergency contact information.

The evening will conclude with a short concert of contemporary and traditional tunes by the praise team from Ridge Avenue United Methodist Church (RAUMC). RAUMC is the lead organizing church for this NCA event.

Neighbors and friends of all spiritual persuasions are warmly invited to this unique community experience. In keeping with the picnic atmosphere participants are encouraged to bring their own blankets and lawn chairs.
