It's been a tough weekend for my boys. On Saturday we went to "Pitbulls on Parade" here in Washington. Jet and Boxie had a great time and we met up with many wonderful people and saw lots of nice dogs. On the way home, we stopped at one of our favorite wineries to do a quick tasting and chat. Both dogs were laying on the floor and next thing I know Jet is yelping because Boxie stepped on his back right leg. It's hard enough to walk when you only have 3 legs, and now he was less than willing to put weight on the rear right. He was able to walk and nothing appeared broken at the time. We got home and Jet laid on the couch. A hour or so later it was dinner time and I had to carry him off as he didn't want to put weight on the leg. Crate rest that night and he was much better in the morning. I had a vet check him out later that day and we decided if he wasn't better by today or tomorrow we'd look into an x-ray to see what's going on. While it is possible he tore something we are hoping it is just a sprain/muscle injury. I feel for the poor boy and though he doesn't act like it hurts much I know he's good at hiding it.
Then, yesterday evening, we went to the park close to us with Boxie. He found his favorite "girlfriend", a mini Aussie who LOVES to have big dogs chase her. They had a grand time running through the woods and over the trails, until she went under a bench. I don't know if he didn't see it, or just couldn't react in time. Either way, the poor pup ran smack into it with his shoulder. Lots of yelping and limping and me thinking a trip to the vet for a broken leg was in order. After getting a good look at it, and him starting to put weight on it within minutes, I feel it was just a good bruise. He's slow today and I can tell his shoulder hurts so we'll watch and go to the vet if needed. I guess it was just "boy dog get injured weekend"! I'll be happy if they stop now, though. ![]() |

We use Trupanion and I'm very happy with them. I have all 3 of our dogs and the two cats set up on plans. They cover most things and pay out at 90% with no lifetime limits.
