MA is now the first state to have a bill signed into law that makes regulating dogs by breed illegal!! Thats right BSL is now illegal here in MA!!!!

Its been like that for a long time LOL. I don't know when it went into effect I just know they cannot have BSL there. Still doesn't stop the HSUS from Euthanizing Pit bulls and not adopting them out. I really hate the Houston ASPCA. I wont even watch their show.

There was a town in PA that was trying to push through some BSL but the state law prevented it from holding up. YAY!

That's great! Maybe my state will be on the list soon. I'm pretty sure we don't have any BSL in affect in Vermont, but you never know when someone will throw a shit fit about our type of dogs

They said MA is a Home Rule state, which I believe means that towns can make their own local laws. Still, it's a big step in the right direction.

It's my understanding (at least in IL) that home rule is only applicable to certain cities/counties so not ALL the cities can have their local ordinances trump state laws. However, noting the size of Boston, I bet they can.

From what I was told by someone who worked on the team to build and get this bill into law the cities and Towns will be able to fight it to keep BSL but no Towns or cities have shown interest in taking the time to fight to keep BSL so we will have to see what happens in the next 90 days.

Yet it has only been a few days I'm just hoping by the state passing the law it may open up the eyes to the Towns and cities to not want BSL.

Like I said Kahn. Texas is a No BSL state, but that doesn't keep shelters from selecting what breeds they want to adopt and what ones they want to PTS and so forth.

Okay let me lay it out to you a little better. YES, you can own Pit bulls and their mutts there now. But say Fido ends up in a shelter. If he ends up in the WRONG shelter (one bias to pit bulls) you will never see Fido again because he will still be PTS based on his breed. All this law does is allows you to OWN the dog. It doesn't stop people from discriminating against them.
