Brushing the dog's teeth is a little creepy and weird. Dogs chew bones and stuff to help clean their teeth and they even have treats, like Greenies, that are meant for dental health.

I don't brush them anymore. I did when I first got my dog, but it was hard to do. I felt like I got 2 teeth total and so I didn't keep it up. I think it's a good habit to have though. Bones do help but they can still get tartar buildup. I am going to take my dog to the vet soon to see if he needs his cleaned.

I do think that dogs teeth need to be cared for just as our teeth do. I do not brush my dogs teeth though. I normally buy these special treats made just for the dogs teeth. It says that the help to brush the dogs mouth ass well as help with dog breath. I have see them in pet stores everywhere, but never tried them. Finally I asked my vet about it once and he gave me a suggestion for a brand he liked. I also signed my dog up for a dental check up once a year. I never new the vets office did that. So now when he goes in to get his nails cut they check his teeth too.You could ask your vet about it the next time you go. I have never known anyone who brushed their pets teeth. I do however, think its really cool you can get your pet to sit there and let you brush its teeth every night. Jack would have never let me do that. Good job for training your dog to sit there.

We brush our dogs teeth, although not every night. Recently we bought him a new toothpaste and it was a mistake! He loved it, too much! It was impossible to brush his teeth because he just tried to eat the toothpaste which made brushing his teeth nearly impossible!

Default Brushing Your Dog's Teeth
While I was with my friend and his dog the other day, I told my friend that every night, I brush my dog's teeth. Instantly, he laughed at my remark, and I asked him what's so funny about brushing my dog's teeth? Dogs' teeth need to be brushed just like us humans do. Surprisingly though, a majority of my friends, co-workers, and family members fail to brush their dogs' teeth on a daily basis.

Do you guys brush your dogs' teeth every night? At first when I started, it was very difficult to get my dog's mouth open, but after a while, it has become incredibly easy for me to brush my dog's teeth now.

I've never brushed my dogs teeth, but he chews on a lot of bones. He is eleven and has regular checkups with his vacs and he's never needed any dental work.

Often dogs fed a raw food diet (or dogs that are given bones regularly) have perfect teeth that never need brushing. My dog is fed a complete dry diet with the occasional treat of raw bones, and I do brush his teeth occasionally when I feel he needs it. I use Logic gel and a normal toothbrush. I also have a tooth scaling tool for removing any buildup.

I also brush my dogs teeth every night. I only feed them dry food as my vet recommended and I do give them chew bones but I brush their teeth anyway. Despite the dry diet Bitsy my dachshund has very bad breath. I've had it checked by the vet and their is nothing wrong that he could find so I brush all my dogs teeth just to freshen their breath.

I never brush our dogs teeth but they always have bones available and this seems to work perfectly

I don't brush ours, but I do buy treats every so often that are specifically built to help his teeth, clean them, etc. He also gets bones regularly, which I think does a sufficient job at scraping off any bad stuff.

LOL That is funny! Be careful or he will swallow half the tube. Tiny doesn't get hers brushed. She eats mostly dry and we give her biscuits. Her teeth get done every time she goes for a trim and care.

Must confess I don't brush mine, but she does get a yearly checkup also and the vet has never really commented on it. It's one of those things that sounds a bit weird but I can see the logic behind it. She eats dry food though and chews a lot of things (sometimes things she's not meant to as well!)
