Special dry cat food that's formulated to prevent hairballs is good. I use Purina Indoor Cat Chow. Also brushing and combing daily will help to avoid hair accumulation inside your cat's tummy.

Cats usually tend to chew grass because it makes them sick (as in gag) and brings up the furballs. But if your cat hasnt got access to grass (eg. indoors cat) then grooming would be very beneficial. Hope it gets sorted

We have to get our oldest cat hairball control dry food as well. The younger cat has longer hair, but has never had any issues regardless of the food, but the older one has had issues in recent years. She still has them with the hairball food, but it's better than it is without it.

It does seem to help if we brush her to pick up excess hair. She doesn't seem to groom any more than any other cat, but she's gotta be ingesting more than she should.

You can get dry food which is supposed to help furballs. Also when my big male cat had a problem, he couldn't eat without being sick, the vet diagnosed furballs and gave me this paste in a tube a bit like marmite. It helps to disperse the hairballs and allow them to pass instead of build up. You can only get it from a vet though so it might cost you a bit.

I have one cat that has extremely thick hair and try to keep it thinned out, because they not only groom themselves, but both my male cats groom each other.. and hairballs are a way of life! They only eat dry food but don't really like the hairball variety, but when it is necessary, they just upchuck the food and hairball and are fine for a few days to a week. I know that that paste from the vet works but I don't have any at the moment.

If he is grooming himself excessively you can get a grooming glove and some wipes to get rid of the excess fur and keep his coat clean, then maybe he won't ingest as much fur.

My cats are constantly grooming themselves and each other. They used to be strictly on dry food. Recently I changed it up and give them a can of wet food for breakfast in the morning. I've noticed a lot less fur balls. I'm not sure if this has to do with it. I try to brush them, but the younger cat, doesn't like It. He only wants me to hold out the brush and he rubs his face all over it. The older cat tends to get grouchy if she gets too much attention with a brush.

For furballs buy a housecat biscut brand (will help break them down in the belly) also buy some katalax and put it on the food every everning for 3days

My cats eat only Purina type of dry food, and I have never seen any of them coughing up a furball, in 20 years. So I guess it works
