Some people are so ignorant!! They don't even know the breed and all they can do is criticize it. I'm on Youtube and this guy can say nothing, but I'll even quote him
"Yes, a herding dog may nip your heels when you run. It's a breed specific behavior. The pitbull's breed specific behavior is to grab, hold, and shake...basically dog fighting.Just because yours has not exhibited the behavior doesn't mean other pitbulls will not and it doesn't mean your pit will never exhibit the behavior. If you are having to constantly monitor your dog's behavior, what does that say about your dog?Pitbull breeders will tell you, "Never trust your pit will not fight". ''d like to point out the flaw in your pitbull "ending a fight". Normal dogs don't fight to the death, the pitbulls gameness was bred into them. Normal dogs use the least amount of aggression or violence to subdue another dog. Many times it's just displaying and nothing ever comes of it. For a pit, that's an invitation for a fight to the death. This video even shows what a danger pitbulls are, mauling their owners...Heck, Darla Napora's killed her and her unborn child. Wonder how she provked it" "First thing, yes, pitbulls were bred to hold and shake. I don't know of any other dog who happily hangs off a rope for 20 minutes while the pitbull owner calls it "exercise". Second, pitbulls were bred to be dog aggressive. Their primary job is dog fighting. It's why they were bred. If your pitbull loves other dogs, then many pitbull breeders will consider yours a cur. Good dog ownership involves picking the right breed, not taking a breed who's been bred to fight and making them a "pet"." I swear some people are idiots!! |

Your first mistake was arguing with people on the internet. Your second was getting upset over it. He gets grammar points. that's probably the mildest "bashing" I've seen, he didn't get personal and attack the owners of the breed, and kept on topic. ![]() |

He actually sounds quite educated on the breed, up until the point where he thinks being bred for dog aggression means they're human aggressive as well.
The other night I was looking for good Schutzhund videos for a friend.. I came a cross some good ones involving a dog that remarkably resembles my Zealand, so I shared those. In the recommended videos on the side, of course, were "pit bull attack " videos... so, I watched about 7, read comments on a lot of them... by the end of it, I couldn't even remember what I had been doing before, I was SO LIVID with the stupidity. But that's the world we live in... people screaming at a dog, spraying it with a hose, and trying to separate it from another dog with a chair... people being attacked by a "pit bull" that is 120 pounds... If it weren't for BSL, I'd be glad most of the world hates our dogs, because there are enough stupid owners as it is! |

I was wondering what you actually were so offended about as well. Seems he more alluded to the possibility of human aggression and certainly that is a possibility with all dogs but often worse than most if it's a pit bull. Then there was the "don't make good pets thing" ... but other than that, I dunno.
The thing is ... we learn these dogs could be "hot" from the start OR fine with other dogs for up to 2-4 years before dog aggression manifests itself ... if ever. Of course we also learn that dog aggression and human aggression are not the same. Now, I'm no behaviorist ... but I've often wondered ... since dog aggression is really basically genetics, wouldn't it stand to reason that other aggressions are as well? ... and if it sometimes takes years before a dog "suddenly" turns-on to other dogs ... couldn't it also possibly take years before a dog becomes human aggressive if "genetically faulty"? |

I was okay with him sprouting facts. Those were common knowledge, but when he became personal that was when I became offended.
In the end this is going to be part of my journey of owning a Pit Bull and how people view me. (from what he alluded I'm nothing but a criminal and using the dog for fighting) ick!! W/e its a thing in the past now. ![]() |

I'm pretty sure he was just detailing the history of the breed and the characteristics of the breed currently. Unless he said "I use my dogs for dog fighting", you're just making baseless assumptions. Sorry for getting upset over it esp if all I said was something really simple about how I love Pits and then I got attacked. Thanks. |
