Im wodering if maybe its something that people maybe used to do long ago, or maybe in the tiny little villages that lack a lot of live stock for food? But I agree, I think its just rumors and folklore cuz Ive never seen it. Although the carne de res that I bought at the carneceria a while ago DID taste kind of awkward lol!

Yes it's always about how the street side taco stands use dog to save profit I mean I don't see why it wouldn't be possible for it to have happened in the past ect

theres no pound here for dogs to be kept or euthanized.
I live in Juarez, and because of all the other points you mention, I really had no idea there is a pound and they do euthanize here. No. Clue. But apparently there are a couple shelters, but they're so badly underfunded they can't do anything about the stray population.
They do seem to survive fine on the streets but... it's still so strange to me. I don't feel like dogs should be left on the streets, they're domesticated house pets. Mine are anyway. :P

I don't know how it is in Tamaulipas, but here in Chihuahua, the state health department routinely sets up stands on street corners and give free rabies vaccines. It's at least something. Distemper and parvo run rampant here (my puppy has had both, and still working on the distemper!), but at least rabies is covered. I'm sure they vaccinate some strays while they're at it.

And as for pits, people do love them here! There are a few different sports clubs exclusively for pit bulls here, and just recently they had a big competition at Central Park, all the clubs against each other in weight pulls and stuff. I didn't go, but I love how people focus on pit bulls in sports that way. (I'm sure there's other sports clubs for all breeds but I've only heard of the pit bull coalitions) They all work so hard to educate people about the breed and discourage fighting. It's fantastic. I hope some of that mindset spills over to El Paso someday. So close and yet so far. Just yesterday on the news they reported a pit bull (with prior aggression issues) killed a toddler (left ALONE in the backyard) and the firestorm of pit bull hatred just blew me away. Almost makes me wanna stay in Mexico. Almost.

Interesting read! I think Id be ok to try ONE BITE, just to see what it tasted like. But unless it was blow-your-mind-amazing i doubt Id ever eat it again lol.
the way he described it, it prolly wouldnt eat it ever again after maybe trying it. (im just not a pork fan, and i get REALLY mad when a chef cooks my meat wrong and it ends up bland) but like you said, if it makes tacos taste good, id eat it! haha.

I spent two weeks just outside of Athens a few years ago, and spent most of my time photographing the stray dogs. These guys hang out in the same spots and most are okay in small groups. People feed them scraps from the patio restaurant tables, and some stores leave the doors open and let the dogs lie on the cool tile floor and enjoy the air conditioning. Unfortunately, two months before I got there there was a mass killing of 40 dogs in a cemetery just up the road, someone poisoned them and cut the throats of some while they slept. They wear collars, but no one owns them.

OMG, lol Ive NEVER heard of not one single Mexican here eating dog meat lmfao. Maybe they did in that one small community or something but not here definitely NOT part of the culture hahahaha.

Also, you all wanted pics so I went on a photo-taking walk yesterday to capture some of the local pups on a typical day in Mexico...

This guy lives across the street from me, and the butt in the right hand corner is Jarrito.. hes my friends dog that came to visit..

The three tiny dogs that live around the corner.. and Jarrito again (who was following me around during my photo shoot lol)

The black dog is ¨Oso¨ he belongs to the people that run the little store by my house and I dont know the other dog but this is them saying hello to me!

Oso and the other dog from another angle, by the little store that I frequent

A bully mix of sorts chained up outside.. he was a little angry that I stopped to take his picture.. but I had to lol.

Little dog chillin on the bench outside his house

AWWWWW, hello there little baby!

Cute little AmBully mix that lives down the street.. super cute but super DA, he throws a fit every time I walk Sam by!

Anyways, thats all for now. And all these dogs I saw while walking for only maybe 20 minutes. So you can imagine how many there truly are!

Hey another Mexico resident! I dont *think* theres any shelters down here, but lord only know lol. We also have a pit bull group down here and during a parade a while back my husband and I got to watch all the pit bulls on parade lol it was awesome. Kind of made me nervous to see that many pits all together in one place but everybody seemed to have them well teatherd and leashed and under control.

I know what you mean about the lack of hatred towards the breed making me *almost* want to stay down here. LOL.

Here, here's one of those jackal dogs from Iraq. Gahhh they scared me!

Yikes! That looks like some sort of resident evil video game dog!

I believe I'd think twice before turning down the covers and inviting that fellow in for a snuggle!!
