Default Pit-friendly cities?
****Apologies if this is in the wrong section of the forum (i'm new and wasn't sure where to post it so i figured the general forum was the safest bet)****

Anyway, I've seen a lot of posts on here about cities and states banning or restricting APBTs (as has everyone else on here seeing as how there's a whole section devoted to BSL) but I was wondering if there are any cities/communities in the U.S. that are known for being particularly friendly/accommodating or at least fair towards APBTs. I ask because I'm about to graduate from college and am looking to move out of Missouri. I'm fortunate enough to be able to partially base where I move on where my dog will feel most welcome (or at least where she won't be discriminated against) so I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge on the subject. Thanks!

id find every place you can live for work and go from there. there are quite a few BSL websites thatll rule out places you prolly shouldnt go for you, then when you narrow it down to cities ad or towns, they usually have gov websites that tell you animal regulations aswell (not all BSL websites have every BSL town)

Tampa, FL!

Florida, as a state, has outlawed BSL. They've tried to repeal the law the past few years, but every time it has been shot down hard.

Tampa has affordable pit bull-friendly housing, plenty of places to take your dog (Including on-leash, dog-friendly beaches, dog-friendly bars, etc.), an active APBT community (We're having at least 5 different Pit Bull Awareness Day events), an active APBT fanciers club (With monthly fun shows/pulls), and a pit bull-friendly shelter thanks to BADRAP.

It's also my home town and I am hugely biased lol.

The job market, depending on what you do for work, is average at best.

I agree with Iron Chef! I live 45 mins outside of Tampa so anywhere in Pasco,Hernando, or Hillsborough County is very dog friendly. Plus if you want country living close to city it's a good area too.

Minnesota, in general is anti-BSL, and very dog friendly. They have an anti-BSL law state wide, and good dangerous dog laws. A few years ago one legislator tried to ban specific breeds and his bill didn't even make it past being introduced. He then tried to introduce legislation that would make it legal to have BSL in the state, and that also got overwhelmingly turned down.

Pretty much all of Wyoming is pit friendly. I live in Rock Springs, Wyoming and the only time i really have a problem is finding a place to rent. Most of the landlords here though will allow pits as long as they are well trained and they feel comfortable allowing it.

I'm pretty sure Virginia is BSL free as well. I live in the Hampton Roads area (which consists of Norfolk, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth etc) and we have no problems.

Same here with IL, and there is no new BSL to be passed because of the state Constitution in IL, but I think up by Chicago there are a few cities that have it grandfathered in or something. If you like small towns, come on over, I can get you a few good vets the do not charge an arm and a leg...heck to get boosters you don't have to pay for the vet visit at either that I use [COLOR="Silver"]

There was a ban proposed several years ago in Chicago and our mayor shot it down.

Ok, I live in Tampa...not so easy finding housing for us. The only 2 apartment complexes in Tampa that I have found are not very nice places...we are moving Oct 31. Any suggestions would be helpful, the search is getting very discouraging.

Most of the Washington, DC area is pit friendly, with the exception of one county in MD nearby. This is a very dog-friendly place, pits included.

Shhhhhh! I was afraid to say this because I didn't want to jinx it. The dogs are VERY popular around here and so far they are tolerated. I do cringe when some idiots can't control their dogs and the dog allegedly "attacks" a kid at the school bus stop. Instead of blaming the owner, they blame the breed. What about the guy who was breeding the AB's and had them in a shed and the puppies died from Parvo? Sad.

In case anyone else is looking and happens to see this thread: Pennsylvania has a state ban on any BSL.

I'm not sure about other cities, but Philadelphia is moderately friendly. There's an annual pit bull awareness day, you're pretty close (about an hour) to a bunch of activities such as weight pull and lure coursing. There's a dog sports club just northwest of the city that is super bully breed friendly and a trainer in the city that offers pit bull specific classes downtown. If you like attending ADBA or AADR shows, there is a show/pull that seems to be offered a couple times a year in Woodstown NJ and the AADR has hosted a Pottstown PA show in the past (both about an hour from Philadelphia).

The downside in Philadelphia is that shelters are over run with bully breed type mixes, so no one really knows what a pit bull looks like. Big management companies will have breed restriction lists (but you are usually able to find rentals that allow them if you go through privately owned properties).

Only two counties in GA restrict pit bulls while four others consider them "potentially dangerous" or "potentially vicious". Ive lived in Savannah and have never had a problem with BSL. Some apartments wont let you have "vicious breeds" as they like to call them, but its better to privately rent a home anyway. Although Ga wont allow dogs into some stores, all in all I have never had a problem here. If you can stand the humidity I would say come-on!
