I am very seriously thinking about having a Pit Bull Education event at my work. I work at a Boarding kennel/pet spa. We accept the breed and always have lots of uneducated humans coming in. We have a very large grounds area to hold an event. I want to have tables for different information like BSL, Nutrition, Training, Show and registry info and so on....I am working on a very large board explaining the differences in the APBT-Amstaff Ambully and so on and have tons of info for that display. I want to give a few short classes through out the day on the proper use of the break stick, crate and rotate and maybe a class for training puppies....
What do you guys think would be some good ideas for such an event? Also if any of you have a business that pertains to the breed send me a message if you would like to send me business cards or flyer to hand out. I am trying to put as much useful information in the hands of owners in our area as possible.... I am also planning food and a raffle for the two legged owners ![]() |

Our area had a similar event, it was held by a Pit bull rescue group. They had areas where you could try some agility equipment, a weight pull station, a treadmill, and a couple trainers giving short classes, and one on one help. Make sure you have a wading pool handy if it's hot...THAT was a real hit with the dogs. There was also a strict "no socialization" policy between attending dogs...which was very wise.
The breakstick demo is a great idea, many people have no clue what one is or what it's for...never mind how to use one, they really should have had that info at this event IMO. Do you have a Pit bull rescue locally that would like to be involved? |

Yes, I will make sure to cover the buckle collar and 4ft lead just like we do at shows, I can always put someone at the entrance to ensure everyone is following the rules....I do not know any weight pullers in our area that might want to give a demo but am going to start looking....Could give a flirt pole and Spring pole demo...we have a large fenced area where people could watch from the other side of the fence. Could also give a mill demo...those are good ideas....
I have a few small kiddie pools I am going to take for water, our business sells Solid Gold and Blue Ridge Beef so we have a good feed to promote, we also have a trainer on site and the Vet that owns our business has a mobile clinic van so maybe I can get them involved somehow. Our manger is an AKC judge and AKC groomer that the American Bully people will love so maybe she can give a short demo on proper grooming for the show ring and maybe give some tips. I thought about contacting Carolina Cares Bullies and see if they want to set up. My biggest problem is going to be finding people that want to help run the event. As of right now I only have 4 dedicated to the event but I am sure I can find more. I want to do a large raffle so I need to pound the pavement for donations and I will have all vendors make a donation also. I am thinking Sept or Oct maybe a good time. If I can set a date and make a flyer and start getting it out maybe I can get some volunteers to help.....I know someone who takes awesome pictures. I thought about getting with her and see if she wants to come and do a photo shoot for the dogs and she can charge whatever it is she charges. My mom is doing the food...we have a large cook out area so she is going to do burgers, hotdogs and I will make bakebeans and slaw the day before. We are still talking about where the profits should go. I thought about getting together with the local "Pit Bull" rescues and running a facebook contest and whoever can get the most likes to our page then they would win the profit....But then I thought about using it to help pay for spay and neuters for the Bully breeds in our area for those that cannot afford it. I have a 1,000 ideas running around in my head lol |
