Default Ugh. These dogs are going to be the death of me! HAHA...
So yesterday we (Robby and I) where in the road messing with a skate board he found in his closet from when he was a kid. He was playing on it I was waiting for him to bust his ass . I decided I had enough and walk over to our bamboo garden and check it out since we hadn't looked at it that day. Suddenly I hear Robert yelling. "KOI! KOI!" and I see this little dog running like she had a monster chasing her; tail tucked. Only thing missing was a yip. So I call her. She came in my direction and then past me and towards the Highway. Well Robby follows her into the pipe yard which is by the highway. At this point I wasn't going to chase her. I didn't feel like it. Well I watched a little. Saw Robert crouch down and call her but she wasn't coming. So I called her again. "KKKOOOIIIIIII here PUP PUP!!! KOOOIIIIIIIII!!!" I sounded like a farmer calling his pigs but it worked. Koi came right to me from about 100 ft away and I picked her up and she licked me in the face and I just smiled and handed her off to Robert who took her inside to her kennel. Well he comes back outside and mentions how she snapped her cable chain.

Okay well we decide to just start walking and when we get back Snow had jumped her pin. Luckily she's tied up inside (the chain is long enough that when this happens she doesn't get hung.) I just sigh and walk over, unhook her and take her back into the pin putting her back on her chain.

I just took my butt in the house afterwords and went to bed before work. Today I have to go buy another cable for Koi. I think I am going to buy a heavier cable (Meaning stronger; meant for a heavier dog). It seems Koi can snap one meant for a 25 pound dog. So its time to get something a little stronger. LOL.

All I have to say is: I was wrong to think Koi had no recall. She does. But its to me. I also need to tell my husband to stop chasing her. I don't think she likes it very well. All I can think of is what I would do if I had something about 100x my size chase me. I think I'd high tail it too. LOL. We are still working on her recall. But man she is seriously challenging us all of a sudden.

Oh I wanted to add:

I LOVE MY DOGS! LOL

Just wanted to add I took snow to petsmart with me today and there was a pit pup there who was lunging and pulling; acting hyper and snow didn't like it. She growled at hte pup and Pulled all her weight into her chest. I looked at the kids who would not control their dog and then looked at mine told her to sit and her mind was taken off the pup and looked right at me as she sit and awaited for more commands.

But I think this shows that she is getting very dog selective.

Sooo....let me get this straight.
Your dog has recall because she didn't come when called?
Saw Robert crouch down and call her but she wasn't coming.

and then she finally came after she went in a pipe? Did I read that correctly? Also..she didn't respond to your husband?
You guys have some work to do IMO

Glad she didn't go running into the highway though..

I'm glad everything worked out well!

Do you think you should also shorten Snows cable thing so she can't jump the pen again?

@Destin- No you read that wrong. 0o; Koi came when >I< called her. Robert chased her into a Pipe Yard. Because she came when >I< Called her she does have some Recall skill. They just need to be worked on and polished. I was under the impression that dog wouldn't come when anyone called. And yes I know I need to get Robert out and work on Recall with her with him. But no she doesn't listen to him at all. I've been her sole care taker for almost all her life. She's known me and worked with me for over a year v.s knowing Robert for only 6 months +. Which is a shame because Rob really likes Koi.

@talz- No because she is hooked to one of the beams inside the Pin that the fence is attached to. so either way she will try and jump over. I would rather it be too long and her be able to touch her feet to the ground then too short and choke herself.

Btw- Love the faces. ^^ I know if this had been anyone else you would have been all over it. HAHA.

I think you may need to re-do your pens to be escape proof.

Working on it MJ. I plan on taking that whole pen down and doing another more like an out door kennel with chain link fence, 8 foot tall and so forth. This is just a fix until I pay off my credit cards so we can do it.

Not really. I just know that you clearly don't learn from your own or others' mistakes. You're lucky neither of your dogs were hurt.

I don't see where you are getting that from. Its not my fault Koi snapped her lead. I am working hard to get what I need to insure the dogs are in proper kennels and no longer either on chains or chains inside pens. I really am. Its just a matter of money. I am also working on randomly calling Koi in the house and rewarding her for coming to me. I'm learning. Money and time just aren't on my side.

If you'd use an actual chain with the proper set up and not a cable...you wouldn't have the problem. Trust me I know...there is a reason Beau has to have a bull snap on his chain.

Maybe not leave them in kennels or on leads/tether/chain unless you KNOW that they can't escape them. I know it's such a novel idea.

Not trying to be nit picky, but yes, it is your fault. Whatever you had Koi on was obviously not strong enough for her, or not secured properly, whatever. Either way, it's not like it's the dogs fault her cable broke.

As for Snow jumping out of the pen.. oy vey.. I'm just waiting for the RIP thread because she somehow managed to hang herself

This, I was just about to go edit my post but you posted as I was.. why are you even leaving them out if you don't have safe, secure spots for it?

:/ You know. I can't ever seem to do anything right. I was so proud that I got Koi back to me. And your just bashing me because my dog got loose in a situation I couldn't help. No matter how hard I try to do things right i'll always do wrong and for that; I really don't know why I bother trying. I want to thank everyone for showing me that I'm just a screw up and I don't deserve to have what I got.

I was so proud of my self. Thanks.

It is ALWAYS the owner's fault when a dog isn't contained. ALWAYS, no exceptions, unless maybe a tornado hits your house. People who say it's not their fault the dog ran out the door - YES IT IS. You put the dog in that position and didn't have her contained before you opened the door. Your dog snapped the cable? The cable wasn't strong enough or you shouldn't have had her tied up. Take some responsibility for your mistakes and stop making excuses.

LovePup;

Mistakes happen. It was a accident, accidents happen. Some people will be asses about it.

How often do you change Kio's cable? After a few months, it's a good idea to change them. I came home to find Serenity's chewed, it was getting quite old and I hadn't replaced it for a while. She thankfully stayed in the yard.

I think it's awesome Koi came back to you, it just proves she listens more then you thought and now, I'd work on her re-call with Rob.

I understand things taking time to fix because of money. I do hope Snow will be fine till you fix her pen up.

I had checked her cable and it was fine. This was the first time she had snapped it. I bought a stronger one and I will be inspecting them more often.

...

---------- Post added at 10:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:14 PM ----------

and yes the cable was strong enough. It was for a 25 pound dog. Koi only weighs 8-10. I bought one for a 50 pound dog. Also her escape that day Was not >My< fault. I blame my husband and his friend for not making sure Koi was in her kennel that night. His mother opened the door and she ran out. I was at work the whole time that happened so you cannot blame me for that one.

---------- Post added at 10:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:16 PM ----------

AND Lastly. Snow cannot hang herself because the line is long enough that the hook up can touch the ground and have some line left over on all four sides.

...Why can't no one see I'm really trying...

First off, I'm glad nothing bad happened to Koi. That would have been tragic. I know a few people who have witnessed their dogs get hit by cars from random accidents and my heart goes out to them. I can't imagine the horror of seeing your dog run towards the highway. I am an alarmist, I don't admit it often, and I tend to get squealey according to my dh, a little bit of a flair for dramatics I guess. But I imagine its terrifying. So glad to hear all is well, they're both safe and sound.

I don't really have much advice for how to safely secure them outside as I don't have outdoor kennels and I don't tether, but it does sound as though until you can get everything fixed up, some type of easy to do changes need to be made to ensure everyone is securely and safely contained.

Never chase a dog to catch it. If anything make a show of having the best time of your life and running in the opposite direction. Seems ass backwards but that's what you do!
