So it seems that here in Mexico there isnt as much of a bad rep for the APBT. Theres tons of strays here but mostly in the neighborhoods, not really downtown... Except for one beautiful male brindle pit. He lives in a plaza in the downtown area and Ive seen him a few times. Most people here hate strays but not this guy.. I always see him getting petted and hes far from skinny. So friendly and loved by everybody! He seems happy living in his little plaza and living off scraps and free attention. It just makes me so happy to see people being o.k. with this off leash stray pit. At least here in MX the pit bull has a pretty good reputation it seems! If I see him again Ill take a picture for y'all, hes so gorgeous!

You have to keep in mind that dog culture here is very different. Most people (not me!) Let their dogs roam freely and theres tons of strays.. Its not something people even think about and people arent bothered by it here like up there (it bothers me obviously but thats cuz Im from the US). If the pit lived in my neighborhood id be very upset since I walk Sam here daily but since hes away from other dogs in his little plaza, it doesnt bother me.. Its kind of nice being able to admire him from time to time when I pass by.
And idk why i have a thumbs down above my post but i cant figure out how to fix it lol |

I find that really interesting! I would say 98% of the people of Mexican heritage I've encountered were deathly afraid of my dogs. I used to live in a Mexican neighbourhood for a time, and they were terrified... It was really the only time I experienced the things other people talk about to such an extent - people crossing the streets to avoid my dogs, snatching their children away, etc.
By no means is this meant to be in ANY way racist... Just an interesting comparison! Maybe because my dogs aren't strays? |

Most people I know in Mexico love the dogs... Lots of great dogs down there and great ones go down there. Too bad the cartels are screwing things up down there.... things have been really bad lately because the area Im in has been run by a gang that broke off from the cartel and now the cartel is back to take over again (civil war between the soldiers, the cartel and this gang) i know it sounds wrong but most of us hope the cartel just takes the area back so the violence slows down again.. |
