Default trouble finding place that will accept pitbulls
so the place that i was going to rent which at first was ok with me having a pitbull cause i told him i was going to get one he said he wanted to approve the dog first. now he wont changed his mind completly. so i am back looking for a place that allows them in gainesville florida. there is one place that allows ALL other dogs but pitbulls. i think i am going to look for houses that are renting a bedroom that will allow pitbulls there. if any of you have any suggestions or if there is any of yall on here that know of a place in gainesville that is reasonably priced that i can rent that allows pitbulls it would be greatly apperciated

There's an EXTREMELY recent thread about this where someone posted locations in and around Gainesville that allowed different breeds. The thread should be on this page or the 2nd. I'm in my phone so I can't link.

In the future, ALWAYS get it in writing and notarized if possible so that a landlord can't just change their mind on a whim. Imagine if you signed a lease and then they changed their mind? You'd pretty much be screwed.

Yea, renting with these dogs is NOT easy. Have to kinda hunt around quite a bit. Perhaps if you had a pet insurance policy people would be less apprehensive?

By pet insurance, I think SG means liability insurance that covers your dog. Not pet health insurance.

Flagrl- Since it seems you haven't gotten your dog yet, you should hold off on a pit bull until you own your own home where you don't need to worry about landlord approval.

You aren't in a good position if you don't have a place to live.

ok think I may have found a few places one place in particular that I really like. hopefully I will get a response soon so I can get approved then go down and sign the lease fingers crossed. my backup is a place which is just as cheap and I know they allow pits as a friend of mine has one and lives there, don't know I didn't think of that place in the first place.

Please be sure your landlord says okay to any dog you are thinking of getting; and be aware if you move, it won't be easy again. As long as you rent, it's going to be a pain.

Roommates are another problem, if applicable to your situation -- BEWARE.

Before you get a dog remember that a typical lease is one year and a typical dog lives 10+ years. Every time you move you'll have to spent weeks in advance looking for a place that will accept your dog or you'll have to give the dog up.

Renters insurance that covers your dog, obedience class certificates and letters of recommendation from trainers and your vet help. So does having a dog that is CGC certified, a therapy dog and/or temperament tested by ATTS.

yes I know that typical leases are only one year. the place I will be getting the dog from, more than likely will be going with this adoption agency, all the dogs are cgc certififed and temperament tested. thank you for your advice I will defiantly be going to a trainer, if nothing else to teach me how to best train my dog, I would never give the dog up unless I just couldn't take care of the dog

ok yall found a place. I will be renting a room in a house with a big back yard he has a dog who is very friendly and I asked him if i can get a pit he said that we would just have to make sure both dogs got along and to not leave them alone for a long time. but im super excited cant wait. there is a couple of dogs i want know there is a chance that they could be gone. but here they are.

I don't think this is a good idea. Glad you found a place that will allow you to have and keep a pit bull but pit bulls are very prone to dog aggression and it's never guaranteed that they will always get along. They might get along well at first and in an instant your pit bull might decide she/he doesn't like the other dog. It happens all the time. You'd be better off finding a place without other dogs.

I'm on my phone again so these are the stickies that I have in my clipboard as I just posted them in another thread so I will leave them here as well. FYI, it's possible to manage a multi-dog home. Many of us do it. You just need to be dedicated to the safety of all dogs living there.

Not saying your dog won't get along with the other dog but there's a chance that they won't at all or will only get along sometimes.

Here are some good stickies:

DON'T Leave your Dogs Unsupervised
Always Expect a Bulldog To Fight

And here are a couple of other members sharing their stories:

Well it happened and I'm heartbroken
My pit bull killed my son's pug last night

I know these 2 are related to small dog vs bulldog but imagine a fight between two larger dogs.
