Default potentially problematic
My boyfriend and i just got our first house, it has a huge back yard for maximus to run around like a nut in. The problem is that our neighbors have a pit chained up outside all the time that barks and growls at max whenever he sees them. MAximus is just 3 months so he doesn't respond but when he gets older i'm not sure if he'll want to respond to the other dog. we patched up their fence so that max couldn't get in their yard and get ate up but right now it will only hold for a puppy if their dog gets off the chain he can get in our yard easily. I've talked to the neighbors and they confirmed that their dog was DA so i'm worried about what could happen in the future. Any suggestions on how to deal with this situation?

The best solution would be Don't ever leave your dog outside unsupervised.

Even with a fence its not a good idea to leave your dog outside alone. Not so much regarding the other dog, just that there is nothing stopping your dog from jumping the fence to get to their dog. I don't care what breed of dog you have, I've seen dogs climb a fence, jump a fence, dig under a fence. I witnessed a dalmatian knock down part of a chain link fence. If a dog wants to get out, it will find a way out.

So definitely do not leave your dog outside unsupervised. If you plan to you may want to look into some options to keep the dog securely in your yard.

he doesnt go out unsupervised, I'm with him the whole time or zach is. I'm really more worried about what to do if the other dog gets in our yard and we can't get Maximus in the house fast enough

You said the other dog is on a chain spot? As long as its a good one, I wouldn't worry too much. However just in case, and you really should have one regardless with owning a bully breed, get a good break stick and learn how to use it. That will be the best thing if they do get loose and start a fight. And again just don't leave your dog out unsupervised, which you say you don't so I wouldn't worry too much.

But definitely get a break stick

Privacy fence, and go out with him when you let him out. Personally, I'd definitely go with the privacy fence, if no where else but just that one side. But all the way around if you can swing it.

You can always make it a hot fence... get a cattle grade hot wire. You may have to wire it low, medium and high... but once he touches it, he probably won't come near it again. Just don't go with pet grade, go with cattle grade.

I agree - Privacy fence, and bury a bit underground so there are no gaps. Our privacy fence is 8 feet tall... You'd at least hear a dog coming over that instead of it just sailing over!

There you go... for some reason, I can never remember weed burner, but I have been told that's what you need.

I'd be curious what kind of tie out they have him on, and if it's durable enough to hold him. Most people don't have their dogs on a good tie out. I was feeding my neighbors dogs a couple of months back, and her AmStaff or whatever he is, was standing there getting loving from me and snapped the swivel his chain was attached to. I ended up just chaining him to the Stillwater collar that I had given her. I know the collar will hold up to the dog, but that swivel (which I had also bought her so his chain wouldn't be constantly kinked) only lasted about 6ish months.

The dog is on a thick chain but the chain is tied to their flimsy railing that is around their porch.
