Default Steady Progress...
So after putting Jasper to sleep a couple weeks back, my boyfriend stated that he would never get another dog ever. I'm making progress on him to forget this silly thought of NEVER AGAIN!

On Christmas Eve we were over to his grandparents house and we went out to the burial site to say Merry Christmas to our Jasper. He started talking about the grim facts of the condition his body was in (wet and frozen) and I had to remind him of his thoughts of human burial sites. He doesn't believe in worshiping burial sites because he believes the person lives in the spirit, not the body. So after reminding him of his beliefs in the human body and telling him that is wasn't Jasper in there, just his body, we went back inside to join the rest of the family.

The day after Christmas we were shopping for some after Christmas deals. We had to stop at the grocery store and right next door is a pet store that has puppies in it. So as we take the baby out of the car, I mentioned how nice it would be to bring the baby in to look at the puppies. I told him how she just lights up when she sees them. He said no, then agreed to stop in under the condition that we buy our pug a present. I agreed, but a few minutes later he changed his mind again. But I feel this was excellent progress that he even thought about looking at another dog (not for purchase just to look). Maybe, just maybe, we won't be without dogs for the rest of our lives.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

Lord, I'd hope he never thought about buying from a pet store. Ya just never know what you'll get!

At least he is sort of making progress. He'll probably mourn a bit more and then be ok with discussing it if you keep working on him.

Haha MJ. No we weren't going to buy one or are we anticipating it. The kids just looking at all the animals. It's the typical, "How much is that doggy in the window" thing...

I only have like 2 stores that actually sell dogs nearish me and I hate going there. They are kinda worn down businesses and the live pets always look sickly. Me and the kids have a lot more fun going to the popular chain stores and seeing the dogs people bring with them.

Couple weeks ago a couple came into Petsmart with 2 St. Bernards, a Great Dane, and a Mastiff. I about died from desire, but I had Renee with me so I couldn't go pet them. My son did, though. I had to pry him away, lol.

Blaaaahhgg. I went into Shitty Pets awhile back to grab something because it's right by my house and we didn't feel like driving to Ann Arbor or Belleville (they "specialize" in designer breeds). I thought about burning the building down after seeing half their puppies were some form of sickly.

And that couple in Petsmart wouldn't have made it to their car. Well, they could keep the Great Dane.

And the big dogs were very well behaved, too! Like already trained! If it wouldn't have been so crowded with so many potential witnesses....

But yeah, pet stores that sell pups and kittens are just depressing. They always look sickly and sad. I know better that to try to "rescue" them because that just encourages the store buying more. On the rare occasion I have to go to either of the 2 stores for turtle supplies not sold elsewhere i run in and run out. Sometimes, I make a rude comment about the pups, but it doesn't matter because I have been rude about it for 6 years now and they still sell em.

That's the nice thing about large breeds. I'm pretty convinced that Ethel's good behavior isn't from my training, she's just big, lazy, and lacking in the motivation to do naughty things.

And there's no way in hell I'm spending hundreds of dollars on a sickly mutt. I'd be better off setting my money on fire, and using my burning money to burn down the store.

Plus, those people greatly dislike me and bf. We're not very quiet about things that piss us off, especially when it comes to critters. That store is one of the few places I let him run his mouth.

I hate pet stores. This one locally (it went out of business finally thank goodness!!) would sedate the Sibe pups they got occasionally so heavily they were about dead. It was sick. And knowing what ignorant pet homes those poor Sibe babies obviously went too because no one who can handle the breed is gonna get one there.... Gawd I literally feel sick thinking about it.

Wait so you have a pug? So.... you aren't dogless really?

I think it qualifies as sortta dogless. Japa's pug is elderly, if I remember right. I don't know how old, but I remember when my Toy Poodle got old he just napped, woke when I left the room, followed me to the new location and then immediately went back to napping. it was almost like having a dog, lol. He just retired from doing any doggy things but eating, pooping, and sleeping.

Haha. These puppies at this store actually look well groomed and fed. Yes, we have to pug and we refer to her as the "old lady". She is about 12 years old now and was the runt of the litter. She has the not uncommon pug breathing problems and her legs are starting to cramp up and she is falling a lot these days when she jumps off of things. I carry her outside to go to the bathroom and then snuggle with her to warm her and massage her legs and hips when she comes back in. She is sleeping next to me right now. I'll get up to go to bed in a little bit, and once she realizes we went upstairs, she'll wake up and get into bed with me and the baby. She goes from sleeping to more sleeping and at most plays maybe 5 minutes a day. She'll occasionally get up and spin at sudden noises and then goes back to napping. She might play with her toy for a minute and then lay back down. We know it won't be long for her so we just try to baby her and snuggle as much as we can.

An elderly pug counts as a cat that poops outside. Shit, my Brussels Griffon is 1, and I consider him to be a cat that poops outside.

Haha....Our cat is more energetic than our pug. Gary is our patrolman and is constantly on guard for something to happen. I swear, he is louder than the boys running down the stairs.

When my Old Man got to about that age he started having joint issues, too. We stopped letting him up on furniture unless we lifted him up and down so he wouldn't hurt himself. It wasn't hard, he didn't really want to jump up and down anyways, lol. One morning he got super stiff and we started regular hot baths with massage. He seemed to like it and he was always better able to move for a couple days after.

Gah, why do I always hear about people's cool cats that actually do something besides whine for food and nap? My cat is so full of fail! I swear to God, a mouse could walk up and punch him in the face and he'd just turn over.

Haha MJ. Gary is crazy. The other day he got into a garbage bag we were filling of wrapping paper and toy packaging and started running off with pieces of it to make noise with. He'll hide and jump out at the kids and attack their legs. He's been declawed but still snapped a mouse's back like a twig without the slightest noise. I had to clean up this mouse, no blood or anything, but you could tell his back was snapped by the huge lump sticking out of it. At least he was kind and made it a quick, painless, death.

My sister has a barn cat that brings her and her roommate mice, snakes, birds, squirrels and even a chipmunk. She will also come in to cuddle and then ring the bells strung by the door when she wants outside. She also plays with the kids and the resident APBT as well as the rabbits. I have thought about kidnapping her, but she'd be miserable locked in the house in the city. And my sister would probably hunt me down and kill me,lol.

Don't be so sure about the painless death. Sissy's cat will play with them until she gets bored then snap their necks or back.

We were upstairs for a while when the death occurred. I was getting the boys ready for bed and there was no mouse one minute and then it was just there and he was sitting next to it in the middle of the floor, like "Look what I got for you!" I told him how much of a good kitty he was and then locked him out of the room so I could clean it because he wasn't too happy about me taking his "gift" away. That was the one and only time he had gotten a mouse.

Every night before bed, he comes up to the baby and they rub heads together...cutest thing ever!

I worked at a Petland store for a little bit while back, and since working in a place like that, I can confidently say that I will NEVER even consider purchasing a puppy from one of those type places. Super obvious that they get their dogs from puppy mills. All the puppies that the owner would bring in were sick, and all different random breeds. The first thing I was taught while working there was how to wash, and medicate all the new puppies as soon as they came in. 90% of them were already sick when we got them, and trust me, they're not usually much better by the time they go home. Can't tell you how many times in that year we had people bring back DEAD PUPPIES after they'd had them for a few weeks.

Not to mention that people who couldn't afford to have a puppy in the first place were able to get FINANCING in order to buy one. That's right. Puppy loans. lol Even had like 3 different companies to do it through, just to get unqualified people approved. Total bullshit. I'm glad shit hit the fan about that particular company shortly after I left.

to the OP, it sounds like he just needs some time to get past losing your dog. I'll bet a while from now, you guys will find one that he just falls in love with again, and that'll be it! lol Time heals all (most) things!

Our cat was born 2 weeks before my son. he was my cat and we had a nice bond until the boy got big enough to cater to him. Now the cat only cares about me if he needs something and my son isn't around. I've walked by my sons room many times to hear him whispering his secrets to that cat while cuddling and petting him. Its so sweet!

When my oldest was a baby our cat would sleep at her feet and attack anyone that came near unless the light was on and her old self could clearly see you. She got me bad one night, lol. I still have a small line or two on my abdomen where she sunk her claws in. Thankfully, the stretch marks from the other two kids have slightly obscured it.

Right? I miss that cat. She was awesome. She actually did cat things like mouse and attack stuff randomly.

Is is sick that I look at cats on craigslist and imagine owning them? I mean, poor Marty kitty lives here and I feel like I am betraying him or something.
