Default vicious sounding growling while playing??
yesterday took Luna with me to my grandparents xmas... they have a beagle puppy thats a couple weeks older than luna
and she would play with him for about 2 seconds and then get pissed and sound like she was a vicious killer!! is this normal
for a puppy?? i know the beagle was bitng her a little but in more a playful way but she was going at him!!! im not so much worried about
the fact she didnt like another dog as i am of her being so young and sounding so mean.... she will play with my cat and they are fine
they get a little to aggressive but my cat usually knows his limits as to when he really hurts Luna.. and another time she was whining
for no reason and i read somewere to lightly wrap your hand around there mouth and say no, so thats wat i did and she did
her vicious growl towards me now that only happened the one time but it worried my husband because he loves her and
doesnt want her to be growling at us

Don't wrap your hand around her mouth. That scares some dogs and it obviously scared your pup enough for her to growl a "hey I don't like that, stop it"

Other than that, read the thread that Bubblz Calhoun posted. As well as keep in mind that pit bulls are prone to dog aggression so she might just be turning DA toward the Beagle. Nothing to be alarmed at, just be aware that she might not get along with every dog she meets.

If I stopped my dogs, including the puppy, from playing any time they made a noise, they'd never get to play.
They growl, they bark, they whine, they make all kinda of noise. But as long as it doesn't include a snarl, or snapping, I let them play.

Here's my 2 cents:

It sounds like perhaps the dogs weren't the best of matches. Not every dog gets along with every other dog...puppies included. If you let them play in the future, I would closely monitor the play and intervene when it seems like one is getting annoyed with the other. Don't let the dogs get over-stimulated; but keep in mind, some dogs are very vocal players. YOu have to figure out which it is: vocal or overstimulated.

As far as wrapping your han around the mouth of an excited, stimulated dog...I think it's a bad idea. There is always the possibility that the dog could a. think you are playing, but because it is over-stimulated go at you a bit too rough or b. the dog could be overstimulated in a DA way and when you get in the way you could catch a re-directed bite. Both of which would be entirely owner error but guaranteed you'd find plenty of people at that point who'd want to label the dog HA even though it just behaved in an entirely predictable, doggy way.

As far as the dog growling at you...it didn't just single you out for a growl. The dog was amped up, engaged in play and p[ossibly getting a bit over-stimulated and you just inserted yourself into the equation wrapping your hand around it's mouth. You either got "Hey you wanna play too in rough & tough bully style, prepare to be pummeled" or you got the aftermath of being pissed at the other dog and your dog's brain not registering that you just got in the middle and stuck your hand over it's mouth for no reason that the dog could possibly fathom at that point.

i only used my hand around the one time... we werent even playing when that incident happened tho... but thanks for the advice
i just didnt know if for a puppy only being like 9 weeks old if it was normal for her to act that way towards another dog already.. i completely understand that pit bulls can be DA, and i said even if that werent the case for her not all dogs like each other anyways ... she has done fine with the 3 other dogs shes been introduced to with no problem and gets along fine with my cat

Being DA at 9 weeks is nothing to be alarmed at.

her "play" growl is really no different than her angry growl... her and the puppy had started out ok then it went to her snarling growling, nothing playful about it... and that was ok, i understand fully that pitbulls can be DA, but im trying to socialize her. once i realized she didnt like the puppy i separated them, no big deal. just wanted to make sure it was ok for DA at that age, and her growling at me, but i understand that it was my own fault... i just was confused because we were not playing, we were outside and she started whining and i had read to do the hand thing somewere and she didnt like it and i havent done it since
