Default False pregnancy?
Ok so the poodle has been kept away from my male the entire time of her heat which is over now, her vulva is back to normal, and the bleeding stopped a week + ago.
She has been around no other dogs let alone any other male dogs before/during or after her heat so she is no way possibly pregnant.

But her belly is getting huge it's like it's constantly bloated and she is a lot heavier to pick up.
Could it be a false pregnancy even this early?

I've never seen one that early and no false pregnency I've seen has ever come with bloating just lactation usually at least a month after heat.

Thats what I was thinking it's way too early for anything even a real pregnancy especially for how fat she is.
Guess it's off to the vet after the holidays...*sigh*

I suppose it could be, but I'd go to a vet to have either a surprise pregnancy or a false one confirmed.

Rita had false pregnancies and the vet told me it was probably due to hormone imbalance and that false pregnancies put her at high risk for mastitis and pyometra. If I were you, I would have the dog spayed asap to eliminate those risks.

Not sure if it's a false pregnancy but since it's winter she could be just gaining extra weight.

In just a week and after her heat would be co incidental, no?
She has always been super slim and now she has a belly on her (i'll get a pic).
I talked to my vet they are also stumped, the only thing we could think of was pyomitra (no clue how to spell it) or a thyroid problem that exploded.

Hmm, not sure what is going on. She definately looks bloated. I would check with your vet.

I would be concerned about pyometra, but it seems a little soon after her heat cycle. How is she acting?

She has a appt for the 3rd the vet said unless she changes in behaviour that date is ok.
And a tech friend said for it to blow up that much she would think it would take more then a week too but obviously anything can happen.
She's acting totally normal, playing, eating, drinking, going to the bathroom, no lethargy, no leaking.

I would be seriously concerned about pyometra. Before I was able to get Rita spayed for various health reasons, I noticed her gaining weight around the middle. I cut back her kibble and thought nothing more of it. When she finally got cleared for her spay I took her in and when they opened her up she had pyometra. We got lucky. If we hadn't been able to get spayed when she did she could have died.

Well the fact that she is acting normal is good. As far as the discharge goes, it is not always present. In an open pyometra you see the discharge, but in the more dangerous closed pyometra you don't. The reason it is more dangerous is because it is not letting any of the puss escape from the uterus so it just keeps building up.

I would also be concerned about Pyo. Pyos usually occur shortly after a heat cycle, so the timing would sound about right to me.

I would definitely take her to a vet as soon as possible. If it's really pyometra, the 3rd could be too late since it's deadly if untreated and if her belly is that bloated due to pyometra, I'd say it's been going on for awhile already.

Bring her in on the 3rd unless she starts being lethargic.
They didnt seem too worried since she is still acting totally normal, the slightest change and she will be going in.
But considering that the gash on her leg is from her jumping her high play pen I think she is feeling just fine.
Everywhere is closed 24th till usually the new year so I really want to avoid going to the vet because it would be emerg.

She has had one heat before this around this time last year and after it was over she had huge nipples like she was nursing but they went away and she never had this weight gain.

I am also waiting to speak to a St.Poodle breeder who's had a bitch with I think both open and closed.
She's the one who told me about pyo in the first place months ago.

It wouldnt build up that fast and during her heat is what I've been told by the vet and some other people.
She has JUST come out of her heat last week.

This is what I got from the St.Poodle breeder who had 2 bitches with pyro

I will check the photo. It's unlikely it's pyo if she just finished her cycle. I thought bloat with the hard, extended stomach but if she was bloating she would NOT be playing, eating and drinking. Could just be some excess gas. You can use gasX on dogs, many breeders keep it on hand for emergencies like bloat. Saw the photo, it's not bloat, she is just a Toy poodle!~ I didn't know which of your dogs you were talking about. She definitely looks full in the lower abdomen. Any change she ate something she shouldn't have? Is she peeing and pooping normally? Something like that could happen if there is an impaction in her lower intestines somewhere It's not false pregnancy as suggested by someone on your wall. Generally that follows the same timelines as a normal pregnancy and since she just had a heat cycle, it would be too early for / false signs. Also, I have never heard of a bitch actually plumping up like that with a false pregnancy. They can produce milk and act like they are pregnant and nesting but physically changing their shape and size would not happen with a false pregnancy. So now I'm even more confused as to what it might be.

Even though pyometra is generally 4-6 weeks after a heat cycle, it is still possible that for it to happen as early as 1 week after. That is still high on my rule-out list for her...

xD

I wasn't suggesting it was a falsey.. I think I worded that last comment poorly xD I was just stating that Tegan had a false pregnancy when we first got her.. But wanted to point out the fact that it happened long after she came out of heat and all her swelling from the heat went away. I guess I was trying to rule it out xD
