The only time my dog has looked or acted full was when I let her eat her fill of vension meat from a couple big hunks I had.. about three and a half pounds later she was a very stuffed and sleepy dog.. but otherwise she's super hungry all the time too

Ruger was full after he broke into the dog food bin and literally ate until he fell over and couldn't get back up

I think it's just a breed trait, or at least much more common in the breed vs. others... they are gluttons!
I've owned and fostered a lot of different breeds, and never seen a dog act so hungry ALL the time like Leon! Leon could seriously, I kid you not, eat 10-20cups of food a day and still he'd go back to his bowl to look for more. I'd never feed him that much, but one day my husband fed him 5 bowls of food from 7am-5pm, I am sure that is up in that range of 10-20cups lol... because he didn't know better, he said Leon kept acting hungry so he though he should feed him. Needless to say my husband is buying the next bag of $70 dog food, and has agreed to keep Leon on his regular diet! My husband is new to dog ownership, and so he is a li'l behind in basic dog ownership skills/knowledge. Haha, he means well most of the time. |

ROFL< Leonidas! My friend rescued a Pit mix from the local pound. This dog had the kids and adults trained! My friend would wake up and feed her. While she was getting ready for work, each of the 3 kids would feed her and then her husband would come down, see the bowl empty and Nikki looking hungry and he would feed her, too! It took her getting awfully fat and my friend catching her husband feeding her before they had a sit down and figured out what was going on.

The only time my dogs act like they aren't starving is when they are sick or really, really, hate the food. Food quality aside, Veronica would happily eat herself to death...unless you offered her fruit or raw vegetables in which case she would give you a scathing look and walk away. ---------- Post added at 07:42 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:39 AM ---------- Whenever we go into the kitchen to get a snack...no matter how much we tip toe and try not to make a sound; and no matter that she is out cold sleeping somewhere else in the house... once you have the food in your hand and you turn around...if you aren't careful you'll trip over her and kill yourself. |

Shogun has always acted like a starved peasant. He normally gets two cups of wellness a day. Once i let my mom feed him when i am not home, and she by mistake gave him 4 cups, because thats what i feed Czar. And after eating double his normal amount, he was still running around begging for food and cleaning up scrap food bits off the floor.

True, but Shogun is a little extreme...if i bring out food...he gets all fidgety and anxious like a crack addict. Proceeds to quickly do every trick he knows before i even ask for it, doing half the trick, as in he knows sit well, but he half sits, squats a little and moves on to the next trick, because he wants to finish as quickly as he can, since he fears that if he takes longer i might give the treat to Czar. And once he finally gets the treat, he swallows it like a pill, and pretends i didnt give him anything, and he was being tricked, looking all sad and pathetic.

Andy used to be the pickiest little thing, he'd eat like a bird and walk away with half the bowl full. Somewhere down the line that changed and now he'll eat anything. He's actually been attempting to break into his food bin and figured out how to step on the pedestal to open the lid. His lowest point however, was attempting to eat and vomit simultaneously. I was able to pull his food away before he choked himself.

X2 ![]() Lucy does however like apples, blueberries, pumpkin, squash and zucchini (so I guess squash in general). Anything else she begs for, takes it into her mouth and kind of rolls it around in there, spits it out, and looks at you for more (or like she knows there's something tastier on your person). |

If there is a person in the house that's not living there, my dogs will act like they're never fed and so neglected. They end up snaking extra food/treats out of guests as well as plenty of love and attention. My dogs are master-actors.
With my mother and I, they always act like they're hungry. If you open the pantry (where the dog food is stored) they'll have their heads in there with yours trying to get into the food. They'll eat until they can't move and then eat a bit more just for good measure if you let them. I've owned a few different breeds and found this to be true of all of them. At one point, I know one of my Goldens was fed breakfast 3 times one morning. I fed her before I left for school. My brother did the same. And my mom, thinking none of the kids were taking care of her, also fed her.. Of course, she was ACTING like she wasn't getting a meal. ![]() Silly dogs, but we love them anyway. |

Ike learned to use his bottom teeth to pop the lock on our food bin, his nose to lift the lid off, and his kind and generous heart decided to teach it to a puppy friend my brother bred and brought over for a day. ![]() |

At least the puppy had the good graces to look somewhat ashamed. |

![]() Joe does that. He will hang out in front of the closet where his food is kept, looking all sad trying to trick everyone into thinking he hasn't been fed. |
