Default If my puppy ate a worm, how concerned should I be?
I was taking Janna outside to do his bathroom business and he started sniffing at this one spot for a while. So I stopped him and when he raised his head up, there was a worm hanging from his mouth. I grabbed it and tossed it out. He might have had a piece of it, or ate a whole one at another occasion.

How worried should I be?

I read a couple of places that it really isn't too big of a deal because a worm is just full of protein. But it still causes concern. I don't blame my dog either because he is still a puppy and wants to explore.

I rather know for sure from this website than researching from other sites. Can someone fill me in on what to do? Thank you!

I'd just leave him be for now and keep an eye on him. Shouldn't be a big deal.

Don't be concerned about silly things like that, your pup is absolutely fine. In fact, it wasn't nice of you to throw away his hard earned snack!

Thanks for the advice . I'm a first time dog owner, so the smallest things concern me!

Is he craving meat?...just a thought...

Yep, I was nervous with my dog too, and was upset about everything he ate and called the vet each time, squeeker from kong ball, whole peanut inside shell, styrafoam, piece of a sock...etc. I have come to learn to clean up everything off floor and out of yard and that dogs can tolerate alot more then we think, Trigger is like a goat and will eat everything...if I let him.

If it's a puppy I'd be more worried if it DIDN'T eat a worm when it found one. She's going to eat all kinds of crap that makes you concerned for her safety, or is so disgusting it gives you a case of the dry heaves just to watch.

Lol@catchrcall

I feed Bear worms when I feed my geckos. He likes the way they wiggle when halfway out of his mouth

Jasper had a taste for any sort of paper product and socks. My old dog tippy would eat the grossest stuff imaginable. Dirty underwear, used feminine products....you name it, he ate it. That was one dirty dog!

That's what I'm talking about right there. Got the dry heaves just reading it.

Within the first 6 months Ike ate cat poop (repeatedly) out of the litter box, feminine products out of the bathroom trash, like 5 sheets of paper towel used to clean up a Ranch dressing spill, a few socks, a few pairs of underwear,a couple action figures, multiple stuffed animal eyes...Gah, the list goes on. I would have been happy if he just ate a regular yard worm!

Thankfully, he either vomited or pooped it all out and now I go around 3 or 4 times a day randomly picking up even little things and closing doors while muttering to myself. My house is the cleanest it has ever been since I got the dogs just for fear they'll eat something and cost me a billion dollars in vet bills!

My Rottie (mostly as a puppy, he's 2 now, but I caught him trying to sneak a guitar pick off the table earlier) used to eat rocks, glass, bits of metal, pieces of plastic, underwear, trash, toy parts, cat shit, and MORE rocks, glass, metal and plastic. It's a miracle he's alive.

The worst truly is when the dog GORGES on "crunchy delights" from the cat box, then vomits it up a little while later. WORST. VOMIT. SMELL. EVER. It's just a cat shit, stomach acid sludge.

Gah, Ike got the worst gas, the most horrid breath and the stinkiest poo ever from the "kitty litter crunchies". He once stunk me out of an entire floor of my house.
