Default How long did you wait?
Before you let another APBT adopt you after you had one pass on?

We had a Boxer/Pit mix that we had to have put to sleep July 2010. We started looking for another dog in November, ended up fostering one, found him a new home, and then brought Brennan into our lives. So over a year, almost a year and a half.

I think it depends on how you feel though. If you feel you are ready, you will know when the time is right for you.

I had a pitbull mutt dog and she died form parvo, and geeze I was in HS still when it happened and I waited years before I got another bull dog, or dog at all. Not because I didnt want one, but not having my own home and all that stuff, but it depends on the person..

Some people lose a dog, and fate finds them a new one within a week or so, some wait a long long time.

There is no time-line on healing. Some people heal much faster than others, some never heal at all and still get a new dog more for something for them to focus on . It all depends on how you are and what you feel you need.

I lost Sadie a month ago, but life's too short to not have an apbt in it.

If you feel ready, then go for it! Or if you find that pup that just clicks snag it up

Sorry for your loss though

You'll know when the time is right. Each person is different of course, just as each dog is.

I lost Rowdy to cancer on Sept 15th of this year.
I too felt the need for a bulldog in my life.
In a way, I felt as though I rushed things and should have had patience, but ...
There was a fine litter of pups whelped on Sept 18th ... 7 1/2 weeks later ... I had a new pup, Mason.

Mason will never take the place of my heart dog Rowdy and I knew that, but he has brought much joy to replace profound sorrow in mine and my other dog Sugar's life and we are lucky to have him.

I haven't lost an APBT, but I had to have a Lab x APBT PTS for human aggression. It was so quiet in my house. I couldn't stand it. I went out looking within a week. Took me a round of rescues and breeders, but within 3 months I found Ike (American Bulldog). A year after that I got Rita (APBT), then Owen (Basset Hound) and now I have Renee (APBT), too.

I am not one who can be happy without a dog or 3 or 4. When a loved dog passes, I want to give a good home to another as soon as I can find the right one.

After my dog (best friend, soul mate, heart) Gypsy died in September, I thought I wouldn't be able to get another pit bull for a long time. She was everything to me.

I brought Zora home just a week later, and Kitty followed a week after that. At first I felt guilty, like I was replacing Gypsy, but they have helped me to heal. I think if they hadn't found me, I would still be in a bad place over the loss of Gypsy.

Chevy was my now ex boyfriends dog and when we have to put him down for aggresion issues my ex went out and got another puppy (kahne) the next day! I was in shock and at first didnt want anything to do with Kahne but looking back on it I think it helped we grieved but we didnt dwell because we had a puppy running around to take care of. After just a few days with Kahne I knew he was the perfect dog for me and still to this day Kahne is one of the best things that ever happened to me I wouldnt trade him for the world.
