Default I am having a problem..
Ok, so a lady who had gotten a dog from us 3 years ago, calls me and tells me her dog is missing.. also their other dog is missing with him.. says he wasnt at the HS when she called and blah blah.. So, I contacted a friend who works there and sent their pictures over to them.. They ARE there!! The fee to get them both out is $150 (which I do not have until next week - by then the fee will be double that). I contacted the owner and told her and she now *can not afford to keep them anymore*.. First off, how can you care for a dog for 3 years and then not anymore? Find it a home, call me to take him back.. I would have.. don't leave him in the shelter to be euthanized!! when they took him, it was before I learned how useful contracts were! but we made it clear to her, we'd take him in a heart beat before anything else happened.. we stayed in touch with her.. just 2 weeks ago - we went to visit him! everything was fine! (this is a pup from tinkerbells litter).. Anyway, I asked my friend if they could put on hold or waiver the fee (awaiting an answer).. if so, we will get them out and care for them.. such bad timing!! While speaking to another lady at the HS, I learned they were aware of them being there - as of the same day they went missing.. (which that day would have been free to get them out).. why couldn't she have contacted me then??? NOO, she had to wait until the fee racked up! Anyway - I just wanted to rant.. I will get him out - as he was originally my responsibility and I will not let him stay there any longer than he has to.. but I also want to help the other dog.. it's not right!! this is total BS!!

Uggghh!! Sorry to hear you are having to deal with this idiot.

Probably another reason I will end up becoming a foster failure and Cooper will stay with me.... I don't know that I trust anyone else to take proper care of him.

OK, we got Midnight out.. I called and talked to them again.. told them the situation and told them I'd love to get them both out but Midnight (tinks pup) was my main concern because he was our responsibility from the day we were stupid enough for tink to get pregnant until the day he dies.. so she waivered the fee for him for me.. and we got him home (I'll post a pic soon).. but the other dog is still there.. I am going to see what I can do about him, but I can not take him on... so unless a home opens up, or his owner does something, my hands are tied.. but Midnight is safe and will not go anywhere!

---------- Post added at 12:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:00 PM ----------

I also sent another msg to their owner and told them midnight was going to stay with us.. until she got on her feet enough to not let this happen again AND signed a contract this time.. otherwise he was with us for good. I've known this girl for many years.. and I am sure it's a misunderstanding (or she really is in a serious situation), but either way - the dog is my concern!

and here is Midnight..

Glad you got Midnight back and are trying to help the other dog. What is Midnight?

And does it look like your large dog is like "K, you can cuddle with me. I will even let you stay here. But you gotta understand that the pillows are allllll MINE!"

Glad to hear you were able to get Midnight to safety. Like Joe said... this is why I don't mess with breeding! People just can't be trusted

Did you say you are going to give the dog back to her? Contracts are ok, I make all my adopters sign one, but they don't really mean all that much, cause it's for a dog. A pet dog who's not worth much ( I mean no disrespect). It would cost lots of money to enforce one in a court of law. And if you made it clear that the dog could come back to you and the old owner blew it off. She'll just dump the dog father away next time...

Yes midnight is the big dog in the picture.. he is bully/lab mix. As for giving him back to her,I do not think she will push to get him back.. with her current situation, I can not let him go back to her (she is without electric/gas in the home and has a child to think of right now instead of worrying about him).. I've learned even the best of people can become pushy and mean if given an alternative.. so it was more of *hes safe, in a good home, worry about your living situation right now* thing instead of a *you'll never get him back* type thing.. The other dog did get removed from the HS as well.. I am not sure if the other dog is back with her or a family members of hers right now.. but from my understanding - her family went and got him out.. My only concern with her other than her utilities is the fact that she could have gotten him out and chose to leave him there.. then all of a sudden that I got him out - wants him back home! so yes, he is going to stay with me. We will get his shots and vet checked next week.. then have him chipped! I've made tons of mistakes in my past (tink was my biggest one.. poor girl had to be Guinea pig I learned many lessons with the hard way), but the only thing I can do, is make it right with the ones ahead of us... when we did make the mistake of not getting her spayed and a stray got in the yard and got her pregnant, we vowed to take responsibility of all her pups if ever we needed to.. and by darn, I mean to stick by that! Midnight was happy to be out of the HS.. he had zoomies for 2 hours! Now is asleep in the crate.. but as any dog from the HS, I worry about what he could have caught while there, so vet first thing Monday! If she tries to push it, we will stand our ground and fight for him.. (I do not think she has much grounds to stand on at this point).. but as I said.. I do not think she will push it..

You bailed Midnight out of the HS, so that would make him legally yours, anyway. I wouldn't worry about her trying to get him back. hopefully, she gets whatever help she can and gets her utilities back on and her household back in order. it sounds like she cared about him but was unable to afford to get him and either has poor decision making skills (like she waited to call you) or she didn't want to admit how bad things were until it was a matter of dog life and death.

Tell to cough up the cash for his bail, shots, chip, vet visit, boarding at your house etc... and she'll never darken you door again...

Yeah. When my brother gave me Rita he was all gung ho about not having her anymore. After a few months and a lot of money getting her treated for the severe double ear infection and then having her spayed, he started making noises like he really missed her and wanted her back. Now, I would never give her back but I didn't want to argue, either.
So I just said "Sure. She was yours, after all. Just pay me the $1500 I put into vet care and promise you will keep up with her ear and allergy treatments. it usually costs me about $200-$400 every 3-5 months or so and you'll have to make sure you pay for her allergy blood test.."

He said "Really? That much?"

I said "Yup!" and proceeded to get out the dog vet folder with their tally sheets the vet prints out listing treatment and cost. He changed the subject before I had the folder open.

He hasn't even come close to hinting he would want her back since.

I'm glad you got midnight back but honestly if I were you I would not give him back to them. Next time who knows if you will even find out about it.

That is one of my worries.. He is being sent in the same day as Corsair to be neutered and will also be chipped.. I might try the *pay me back* thing.. see if that sways her away.. but honestly. other than that first day - we havent heard from her.. if it was my dog.. and it really was an accident.. I'd fight like heck to get him back!

Well, with her financial situation maybe she has decided to leave the dog alone in your care because she knows she can't do it and you can.
