I'll try to yell at the dog first, and last resort use physical force. We had this one house where the dogs would get out through a gap in the fence. A pit and two chihuahua's isn't fun when walking three dogs. I'm trying not to step on the chihuahua's. my one dog got out of his collar due to the tussle and the female pit came after my pit and sadly I had to use my foot. I apologized to the owner and she was very apologetic as well. I hated having to use my foot to scare the dog away.
