I haven't wanted a cattle dog, but that breeder had me wishing (more than usual) that I lived in a rural area and had an excuse to get one...

Have you tried sending the rescue an email and calling to ask what's up? If they still don't respond, I'd go to a breeder and make sure the rescue knew I passed over rescuing in favor of a breeder at least partly because of their failure to respond in a timely manner. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be the first or last to do so and they need to know that if they seriously want to place dogs in good homes.

Or you could keep looking at different rescues and on CL. I see CD's on CL here and there because someone bought one without realizing how smart they are and how much exercise and training they need.
