Its hard to say.. I have a lab/pit mix and they resemble each other, but unless I look hard enough, I only see lab in both. I wouldnt be asking your neighbors or ppl around your town if they thought she was.. (you might strike up suspicion) ..If anyone questioned you about it - I would just say **She was posted on Craigslist as a Lab** and drop it.. I agree on getting her licensed if itll let you keep her no matter what. (and at vet visits say shes a lab and dont mention anything else)..Good luck to you and please let us know if anything arises.

Hi,

I would like to ask for some advice. My husband and I adopted a 1 year old puppy
last week. She was posted on Craigslist as a Lab. When we saw her we knew she wasn't
purebred, but we didn't know what she is mixed with. Her owners said they adopted
her from another person, and didn't mention anything about pit bull. They didn't
seem to know what her mix is.

Since then, several people have commented that her face resembles a pit bull. That
doesn't bother me, but it could be a problem since we recently moved to Denver.
Before this week, I didn't know much about pit bulls, or the ban, but I've
been searching the web and have learned that she could be taken and killed if she
looks like one. I have seen a lot of variety in the photos of pit bulls I've
found, and some seem very stocky with the square head and wide stance, while others
are taller and leaner like her.

I have been anxious and worried since I heard that she may be a pit bull mix. She
is a sweetie and we have fallen in love with her. It breaks my heart to think I
may have to give her up, but the thought of having her taken and killed is even
worse.

I am wondering how closely a dog needs to resemble a pit bull for the city to take
it. I think she looks mostly lab, but I am not sure if I can even look at her objectively
right now. I have posted some photos of her. Would you take a look and tell me what
you think?

Thanks,
Lisa
Hey Lisa,
I was reading your text and by coincidence I was talking to a young man today who had 2 adorable puppies in his truck. They looked so much like my Belle I had to ask what they were. She is a lab mix and I always wanted to know what the mix might be. He said he knew the parent dogs and they were an English Bulldog and a Lab. Belle's brother looks more like your dog. Whatever he might be he is a great looking dog and I just had to write and let you know what I thought. Good luck.

I have a Lab / Pit and your dog looks mostly lab and unless they require a blood test I wouldn't worry. Just keep her paper work as a Lab mix because that's what she is.

Get one of the doggie DNA tests. We all know they aren't accurate but it might help if animal control knocks on your door.
Good idea. The tests are entirely innacurate, and most don't test for pit bull anyway, so even if you tested a pure bred pit the results would come back as somrthing else. It would come in handy if anyone DID try to make trouble for you, because the general public believes the tests to be accurate, as do most animal control type institutions.
