Default Does This Merit Calling the Vet Immediately?
I woke up at 11 ish (1 hour 45 minutes ago) and Honey got up with me and acted like she needed to go out, so I let her out. I went to the bathroom, brushed my teeth, and then went to let her back in. Usually (ALL of the time) at the sound of the door opening, she comes running. She didn't, so I started calling her and whistling.

She poked her head from around the corner, and looked at me, but wouldn't come. She walked off and started throwing up, which was nothing, basically yellow mucous. She laid down and wouldn't come to me at all. I had to carry her inside, which she did not resist. She keeps trying to throw up ever 10-15 min, but it's usually just a lot of mucous, and sometimes she just dry heaves but doesn't actually throw anything up. She also keeps getting up and laying back down like she can't get comfortable.

I woke my parents up because I am really worried, but they said it's the middle of the night and she's just "sick" and I need to quit overreacting. My dad said I should give her pepto bismol but I have NO IDEA if that's truly safe for dogs.

Should I call the vet?? Is this an emergency?

Could she have gotten into anything outside? Many plants are toxic to dogs. A lot of dogs that eat grass will eventually throw it up.

If you can call your vet, it won't hurt at all.. And shouldn't cost you anything just to ask. Is your vet a 24-hour hospital? I'd call just for peace of mind at least.

When was the last time she ate? My dog will sometimes vomit yellow bile if he hasn't eaten.

I brought her water bowl to her and she drank a good amount of water, and she is up and walking around instead of just laying down and repositioning herself a lot.

My vet isn't 24 hour, but they have an emergency number to call. I live in a very small town, the only 24 hour establishment is a super wal mart.

We don't have any plants in the backyard other than grass and trees, which she has never had any issue with before. I don't know. She just threw up the water so I think that that didn't help. : / I will go ahead and call the emergency number listed, better safe than sorry.

The constantly repositioning could be if her tummy hurts or if she's feeling nauseated. Did she pee/poop while outside?

If it will make you feel better, call.. But she might have just eaten some grass and now she's back to moving around?

I'm not sure if she peed or pooped, but she never had any issues with going in the house. I'm sure she did, that's why she goes to the door 99% of the time.

I mean at what point do I *NEED* to call the vet?

She's thrown up 5 times in the past hour or so, but just small amounts of yellow slightly bubbly mucous.

She is up and moving a LITTLE more, but certainly not her normal self. But she is walking around a little. She also just went to her bowl that I put back in its normal spot and got another drink.

You have a number you can call for vet emergencies, so call. Make sure she stays hydrated. It's her lethargy that worries me. Like I said it's not going to cost you anything to call so just call.

My boy was recently sick and vomiting but he was still bouncing around and crazy as usual.

Well no one answered the phone, I called 4 times. She seems like she feels slightly better.

I was racking my brains trying to figure out what the problem might be. I did give her her heartworm preventative yesterday around 8:30PM, but she's never reacted to it before.

I used to have a cocker spaniel who threw up all the time (like at least once a week) but would otherwise act completely normal and it seemed to be a result of her just overeating.

My Internet just took a dump so u can't link you but I recently (Sunday) made a thread about my dog's vomiting and MJJean gave me some helpful advice (as usual):

I think that's a pretty good standard, especially considering the source. Please at least call your vet. Let us know what they say. I hope it's nothing serious.

I called again and left a message, I googled some 24 hour emergency vet clinics in the DFW area (2 hours from me) but I am about to call them and at least see what they say.

She is lapping up water, but she keeps throwing up in small amounts as well.

Make sure you find out if she's actually peeing too. I agree with calling other vets even if they're not local. Someone should be able to answer your questions. Do you know the location of your vet should you need to take her in? Vomiting can cause dehydration, keep it in mind.

I spoke to someone at an e-vet in Dallas and they said they think I should get her in to the vet first thing in the morning, especially if she keeps throwing up, due to the risk of dehydration.

My poor baby.

ETA: Should I take her outside and see if she will go to the bathroom so I can see if she has diarrhea?

I'm sorry I'm not more help. I don't have a whole lot of experience with this sort of thing and I'm a chronic worrier. If you can't get a hold of your vet, just watch her carefully and take her in first thing in the morning.

No! You are a huge help! Thank you so much for all the advice.

Okay, I just took her outside. She squatted like she was going to pee, but nothing came out. She also continues to vomit the water.

Have you tried calling your vet again? Honestly I would keep trying because if she's not peeing, that's not good. Vomiting and not peeing/pooping with lethargy CAN be a sign of a blockage which is definitely a bad thing. Can you get yourself to the vet? I don't want to scare you but honestly that's what running through my mind right now.

First off stop giving her water, it is actually very heavy and sits in the tummy. If you need to give her liquids, do ice cubes, much less water and she will hydrate without getting to much water in. This can actually make her throw up if she is already not feeling well. Pepto bismol IS safe for dogs so you can give some to her. I wouldnt let her eat anything else for the rest of the night however....you say you are 2 hours away from DFW.....north perhaps? Where are you located I may be able to have some help for you....

Mylanta?

I have always been advised that pepto is fine and have given it to many dogs without any ill effects.
