Default Bark Collars.
Okayso. My dog Baloo was fine being left in his crate before we moved. But now, he whines and howls and barks when I leave. Granted we've only been here a week but this landlord is very clear about no barking obnoxiously. Baloo can be left somewhere not crated and he won't tear stuff up but I just wanted him to get in the habit of being crated when I go places. So I guess I can leave him uncrated until he gets used to the new place or get something to keep his barking down. So has anyone had luck with the bark correction things? We used to have one of those that would do the annoying beep only dogs can hear a few years ago but it didn't seem to work on that dog . He really hates stuff being sprayed at him but it seems the spray collars only have a few sprays til they're out. Because I need him to stop barking...yesterday or we'll be in trouble. So any advice? Did your dog have Seperation Anxiety issues when you moved places?

I'm not big on bark collars, but I've never had to use one. I would suggest getting the giant Kong and stuffing it with a mixture of peanut butter, mashed banana, some pumpkin, and a handful of dry kibble. Freeze it overnight and give it to him the very last thing before you leave. Lead him into the crate with the smell of it, then let him have it. It won't keep him busy all day, but he will begin to associate the crate with a yummy treat. Bella loves her crate, because she gets yummy snacks in there that she doesn't get outside the crate. All my dogs will go lay down in their crate when they are tired of playing or want to take a nap. They all have associated the crate with yum-yums, so they love their crates.

I would also try leaving the radio or TV on so he can hear the volume, but not too loud. I used to leave the TV on for Mollie, but now, she sleeps all day so I no longer leave it on.

Yeah he doesn't mind the crate at all. It's just when I leave. He goes and chills in his crate sometimes just for fun.

But TV is a good idea. I might do that.

Nick was on a kick for a while when he's start barking about 3am. We got one of the bark collars that sprays and it worked GREAT. He's bark once, get sprayed and stop. I only needed to use it a few days and he quit.

I was thinking the spray would work best because we used a spray bottle to get him to stop jumping and he responded very well. I just don't want him to despise his time in the crate.

I used a bark collar on Piper for a little while when she decided she wanted to be a rooster instead of a dog. Only took a couple times for it to give her a little zap and she figured it out. They're great tools when used properly, just like any training device.

Goren has to wear one when we are not home, I had to look around for one that had a non nylon collar part but it works well. My neighbor told me when we left he would start barking and howling (separation anxiety I guess) but now he does not with the collar, he will do a low soft bark at an animal/dog but that is about it. Get one that uses both sound AND vibration so you know your dog is getting shocked because ITS barking not some other noise that happens to be picked up by the devise
