Default Nearly lost her yesterday!
I was walking Sasha and we were up near the main road when she had a "Collar Malfunction". Thankfully she isn't a very bright dog and just stood there looking at me like "what just happened". Long enough for me to quickly pick her up and carry her home. My recently injured wrist is killing me today after carrying her back. But atleast my dog is safe and sound and in one peice. If it had been my old dog he would have taken off and been in the street before I would have had time to register what happened.

Well I'm off to get a new collar. I can't believe it I paid way too much for that collar for it to just break like that.

It was a leather collar. Very sturdy. I paid close to $30 for it. Something was wrong with the buckle I guess. Because it just came undone and it won't latch now.

I just got her this time just a cheap nylon collar at wal-mart. They have always held up pretty good. I can't really afford to go all out on a new collar at this time. Maybe at Christmas I'll invest in a real good one.

Stillwater has very affordable collars that are heavy duty. Check it out!

I've had the same two inch nylon Wal Mart one for Joe for more years than I can remember. I also always had two collars on any of my dogs when walking them, just in case.

Leather collars are for looks and aren't that dependable, or at least when I have used them they were never dependable. For just a few extra dollars you can order a dependable, durable collar from stillwater or Obriens

I knwo what you mean...Willow chewed a huge chunk of leather out of Raj's $60 leather collar and did it to her own as well..So i went to the pet warehouse and got one by Lupine Pet for $12 which is "guarenteed even if chewed"

I'm glad Sasha is okay, I have a cheapo collar from wallmart too and it has lasted, but we don't use that one on walks we have a big thick nyloncollar for walking.

I think having two collars and two leashes on them is a good idea!

Thats so good she didnt run.. I am paranoid about Bear snapping his prong off, so he is double leaded on his prong AND his 2'' flat collar.

I would suggest getting a Stillwater also, those collars survive YEARS on hard hitting dogs on chain spots, I doubt she would snap one of those.

I have on my pup a collar from Collar Mania, its 2'' suede crypton and I still have his old one that he wore for a long time and destroyed it but the main part is still intact and I am resewing a new ribbon on it and giving it to my sister for her dog.
They are not to expensive, and come in cool designs and stuff..

Reasons I only use Stillwater, Ella's Lead, and Collarmania....

Get that little lady a Bronson Show Collar from Stillwater already.

Like I said maybe Christmas. Things are tight again for us so no extras right now. The Nylon one will have to do for now.

Again we too are thankful we didn't lose her. Thankfully I really don't think she even realized she was off the collar.

Glad she was safe!. I do have a question though. Why didn't you just make a lasso/slip lead type thing with the end of the leash?. She would have been safe and no need to carry her home.

Glad she didn't dart off... mine would have been history, especially Mollie, she always can sense when she is "free".

I think I have a smaller Stillwater collar that Shane sent me, I'll see if I can find it and send it to you.

Well I was only 3 buildings away and well I freaked ofcourse and didn't really have time to think. Just react. My reaction was to just get her back inside the apartment as fast as possible so I grabbed her and ran. I mean she is only like 30lbs. Was that wise with my bad wrist? No. But its what I did.

How does that suede crypton hold up to dirt and hard use so far? I really like the looks of it...

Its amazing lol he got it caked in mud and grass when it rained and I just sprayed him and the collar off and it looks brand new. Thats was the day before I took those pictures of him so you can see it still looks perfect.
The water ruined his other CM just the regular overlay ones, so its awesome he can play in the water and not ruin his collar.

He also scratches the hell out of his collars and so fat the suede doesnt have a mark on it. The overlay was coming off within a week or so on his other collar.

Not to mention the cat attacking him, no cat marks on it either.

I am liking it A LOT.

My pup broke a collar on a walk. She ran. I just ignored her and turned around and walked toward home. As soon as she realized that I wasnt chasing her she followed me home. Good thing we were close to home.

It is funny that the original poster described the collar as "very sturdy." It doesnt sound very sturdy to me
